UW-IT has an outstanding opportunity for a UW Medicine Program Manager.
The UW Medicine Program Manager is responsible for directing and participating in strategic planning, program effort prioritization, project planning, budgeting, coordination, outcomes, management and oversight for a significant range of UW-IT programs, services, projects, and operations in support of UW Medicine. The position utilizes a broad spectrum of skills which include IT knowledge (networking, telecommunications, datacenter), problem solving, public relations, contract negotiation, cost structuring, financial management /budgeting and extensive project /program management skills. The scope of projects range from division-level projects within UW-IT as well as University, community, regional, and (as required) with peer institutions around the country.
The UW Medicine Program Manager works collaboratively with the UW-IT and UW Medicine leadership to define and track strategic goals and programs to meet those goals. S/he treats each project and service request as part of the holistic organization's needs rather than as isolated activities. S/he must be define and advocate for efficient, sustainable, reliable, and supportable UW-IT services and processes as they relate to meeting the needs of UW Medicine. The Program Manager understands the purpose and status of all Program projects and advocates for strategic and executive-level activity to ensure the overall program goals are met. The Program Manager provides decision-making capabilities and acts as a sounding board for ideas and approaches to IT solutions in support of UW Medicine. The Program Manager will identify and manage cross-project dependencies and synergies and work with assigned project managers as well as leadership and senior engineers to provide insight of the risk, issues, requirements, design or solutions and the impacts of these projects. The Program Manager gains insight by actively seeking out such information and working closely with UW Medicine & UW-IT senior engineers and leadership.
Bachelors degree in communications engineering, computer science, or related field.
Minimum of four years' experience in progressively responsible positions involving networking or communication/telecommunications technology.
Experience with voice and data communication systems including DWDM, SONET, T-1, DS3, digital switching, TCP/IP networking, routing, and Internet operational issues (DNS, IP addressing, backbone connectivity).
Must demonstrate professionalism and skills to represent the University at conferences and in public.
Must demonstrate ability to work with minimal supervision, either independently or as part of a team.
Proven ability to develop and implement technology deployment plans.
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
ITIL v3 Service Management certification or demonstrated experience.
Knowledge of Unix, TCP/IP networking, internet technologies and Windows preferred, along with security infrastructure issues including authorization, authentication, access control and policy administration.
Basic knowledge of computing hardware configurations, data backup, and web development technologies, and voice technologies (e.g., PBX, IVR, VoIP).
Experience working with IT management and engineering professionals.
Experience working with IT in the health care sector.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
Must be able to respond to network outages, scheduled installations, and maintenance activities during off-hours.
Must be willing to travel.
This is an essential position and is required to report remotely to work when UW suspends operations.
