The UW Information School (iSchool) has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Financial Coordinator to provide effective, timely and compliant post-award financial administration of the iSchool's research and sponsored project funds.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Post Award Grant Analysis & Support (60%) Develop, monitor and analyze fiscal compliance and management reports for all iSchool grants, contracts and other research-related funds.
Establish and oversee the maintenance of comprehensive fiscal files (paper and electronic) using multiple record keeping and reporting systems.
Analyze, verify and complete Faculty Effort Certification reports.
Design and modify complex budget monitoring and other fiscal reports for efficient internal review and to meet the needs of a variety of sponsor agencies.
Prepare, analyze and distribute monthly budget management and compliance monitoring reports for research grants, contracts and gifts, including reviewing and reconciling actual performance in comparison to budget plans.
Determine the need for and assist principal investigators and other managers with revising fiscal plans to respond to budget variances and forecasting project expenditures.
Analyze, recommend improvements, and update grant fiscal record keeping systems based on iSchool and funding agency requirements, UW policy, and other applicable rules and regulations.
Research and determine cause of budget variances, identify trends and present options for appropriate corrective actions, as needed or requested by principal investigators.
Manage the set-up and closure of grant budgets to include formulating specialized reports for PIs, cost sharing or other fiscal reports.
Make recommendations for, build, modify and update, fiscal tracking and reporting process changes to address specific needs of principal investigators.
Interpret and apply sponsor and University policies and regulations.
Assist principal investigators by consulting with funding agencies to obtain approval for deviation from authorized procedures or expenditures.
Notify principal investigators and other managers about the applicable fiscal policies and procedures.
Coordinate expenditure transactions.
Review expenditures for compliance and correct/adjust transactions as needed. Ensure proper and timely communication to the iSchool Human Resources staff regarding payroll additions or changes for research project personnel as indicated by budget plans approved by principal investigators.
Respond to compliance and other fiscal information requests from iSchool management, UW central administration and other external partners, including reviewing and approving eGC1's, business elements of proposals, no cost extensions, travel and expense reimbursements.
Monthly Transaction reconciliation.
Extended Fiscal Support (30%) Assist principal investigators or research staff with complex budget management, complicated expenditure transactions and preparation of fiscal documents for external purposes.
Monitor budgets and adjust projections at a level of detail beyond standard routine process.
Contribute to development of pre-award budgets as needed, especially during high volume proposal periods.
Assist with quality control and monitoring of grant submission processes.
Coordinate complicated expenditure transactions (such as service contracts, visitor travel, and field advances).
Coordinate and manage sub-contracts.
Other ( 10% )
Coordinate and prepare documents for audits or other special external reviews.
Attend All-iSchool and Staff meetings.
Attend quarterly QRAM and research administrative-related campus presentations, workshops and trainings.
Participate in committee and iSchool events and activities as appropriate. Other duties as required.
Lead Responsibilities May lead the work of student employees and temporary hourly staff.

Bachelor's Degree with major study in accounting, business administration or related field and two years of work experience as a Fiscal Specialist or equivalent education/experience.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel; experience working with Microsoft Access or equivalent databases.
Experience with other Microsoft Office products such as Word and Outlook or equivalents.
Strong analytical and financial management skills.
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
Demonstrated strong communication skills; both written and oral.
Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.

Familiarity with fiscal management of government and foundation grants and contracts, such as NSF, Gates Foundation and IMLS; one year of grants and contract management experience preferred.
Knowledge of University of Washington fiscal regulations and procedures, including those related to grants and contracts.
Experience with UW financial processes, including Ariba, EDW, and Financial Desktop.
Experienced in budget development, fiscal monitoring and financial projections.
Understanding of the principles of a relational database.
Experience using SharePoint.
Strong on-line research and information search skills.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Typically, a 40-hour, 5-days per week position in a standard office environment. This position is overtime exempt. To effectively complete timeline-driven projects and deadlines, flexibility in schedule and additional hours beyond standard office hours may be required.
