- Master's Degree in relevant field (typically education or psychology) – Prior experience in relevant work especially teaching experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Teaching the equivalent of 10 hours of elective courses each fall and spring semester addressing topics such as reading, time management, note-taking, study strategies, goal-setting, technology skills, test-taking, transition to college, etc. 2.Developing and improving classes to meet student needs and demands. 3.Provide support for tutor training in collaboration with University Tutorial Services. 4.Acting as a liaison with advisors to advertise classes and ensuring that topics meet the needs of their advisees. 5.Staying informed of advising issues that could be integrated into instruction, such as information about campus resources, and deadlines in the academic calendar. 6.Pursuing professional development in any area that would help in teaching these classes, such as reading and study skills; general technology skills instruction; developing online classes; advising and coaching student success. 7.Developing materials for teaching classes for self and others, as well as materials to post on the website. 8.Developing and offering on-line courses and/or online workshops on topics related to Academic Strategy Instruction for tutors and students, including social media. 9.Supporting other instructors in teaching Academic Success classes. 10.Providing one-on-one strategy consultations. 11.Providing workshops upon request on academic strategy topics, including as part of training mentors, tutors, or study hall leaders. 12.Performing other duties as assigned such as supporting the work of Academic Strategy Instruction and the Student Learning Center in general. 13.Serving on relevant campus committees. 14.Supporting the process of writing grants to improve these instructional efforts.
-Commitment to student success -3 to 5 years of teaching experience, including online -Prior experience providing individual assistance to students as a mentor, tutor, etc. -Excellent interpersonal skills, with particular focus on collaboration and teamwork -Prior experience working in the college setting -Effective oral and written communication skills -Demonstrated initiative and flexibility to perform duties necessary to accomplish the mission of the unit -Proficient in use of technology, including computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Moodle, etc. and social media.
