The CalTeach program at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary non-tenure track lecturers for its undergraduate education courses for the 2017-18 academic year, should an opening arise. Positions may range up to to 33% time and may begin in the Fall 2017 semester.
CalTeach courses include introductory seminars focused on science or math teaching in elementary and middle schools, Knowing & Learning in Math and Science, Classroom Interactions: Focus on Equity in Urban Schools, Research Methods, Project Based Instruction, History of Science and Math, and Apprentice Teaching for student and intern teaching support.
General Duties: Teaching or co-teaching a CalTeach course includes holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, and preparing course materials. Responsibilities may also include assisting with student field placements in local schools, providing supervision and support to student and intern teachers in their classrooms, and supporting CalTeach students through the credentialing process. Basic Qualifications: Masters degree or equivalent degree is required at time of application.
Preferred Qualifications: A doctorate or equivalent degree. At least 3 years of secondary math and/or science teaching experience is preferred, particularly within the Bay Area. Undergraduate teaching experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities are also desirable. The ideal candidate will also have practical experience with scientific laboratory or field research, or science or mathematics education research and program evaluation.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience.

Cal Teach is a program for undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors interested in exploring a career in education. Through our courses, students learn conceptual teaching skills and practice these methods in local K–12 classrooms. Cal Teach offers the Science and Math Education minor as well as a unique opportunity for students to complete both a bachelor's degree and a California teaching credential as an undergraduate.
