The Real Estate unit of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for a Residence Assistant position. This position will provide a customer service atmosphere at the entrances of University Place Apartments while controlling access to residents and authorized faculty and staff to provide appropriate building safety and security.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Serve as the primary contact for any/all security issues for University Place Apartments, home to approximately 500-1000 students, maintaining daily contact with DPS and other University departments and staff as necessary.
Carry out University Apartments procedures related to hall security when apartments are open, including checking and verifying student and staff IDs, verifying guest registration, conducting hall roves and checking perimeter doors as necessary.
Keep appropriate staff apprised of any and all emergencies and respond to apartment situations that might involve policy violations, emergencies and other community concerns.
Enforce all University Place Apartment policies and community standards and act as the initial contact in confronting policy violations, submitting detailed information reports of all such incidents.
Interact regularly with live-in staff and call upon them for assistance as necessary.
Coordinate the operation of the apartment main desk, ensuring that student staff are providing appropriate customer service and maintaining security and procedural integrity.
Serve as information source for apartment main desk areas, including answering telephones and questions, and accessing the student directory.
Participate in Community Assistant training prior to the start of each academic semester, as well as in on-going staff development.
Complete other duties as assigned by Apartment building Manager Program Coordinator and Administrative Associate.
Work Hours: Variable evening/night shifts, with most 7.5 hour shifts occurring between the hours of 5 p.m. and 6 a.m.; weekend work required
