Posting Summary: The College of Arts & Sciences is currently accepting applications for computer engineer positions in both the Department of Psychology and the Department of Physics. The positions provide computing support for faculty, students and staff; purchase, install and manage computing resources (hardware, software, and data management) required to support clients in their administrative, research, and academic roles; assist clients in the use of computing resources and other information technology; and maintain and support the departmental computer labs, classrooms, and clinics. The positions also provide maintenance, troubleshooting and installation of microcomputer, network, and laboratory instrumentation support systems. The positions act as liaison with both school-level and University-level computer support.
The position in Physics is restricted and contingent on the continuation of funding per policy HRM-015 (https://uvapolicy.virginia.edu/policy/HRM-015). The position in Psychology is not restricted.
Required Minimum Level of Education: *Degree or Equivalent Experience Required
Required Specific Degree/Training: A Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, experience, and training is required.
Preferred Minimum Level of Education: *Degree Preferred
Preferred Specific Degree/Training: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related disciplines is preferred.
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: At least 2 years of experience in IT and customer support is required. Some experience in the following areas: -providing desktop computing support -managing and troubleshooting networked computing resources and access thereto -experience with the full range of operating systems and applications commonly found within Arts & Sciences organizational units such as Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems, VPN and Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Minimum Level of Experience: Considerable - 4 to 7 years
Preferred Specific Experience: More than 5 years of experience in IT support with experience supporting researchers with complex computing needs.
Some experience with University purchasing procedures preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have knowledge of microcomputer hardware, operating systems and application software, as well as the ability to troubleshoot problems within a decentralized, complex institution. Employee must also possess excellent communication and organizational skills and be adept at tactfully managing a wide array of customer needs. Must have excellent customer service skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the University computing environment and its resources is strongly preferred. Knowledge of UVA's enterprise systems (Exchange, Oracle Financials, HR, ImageNow and SIS) and customer support using these systems strongly preferred. Strong background in troubleshooting Windows, MacOS and Linux OS systems.
