Seeking a Human Resources Generalist
Housing and Food Services (HFS) at the University of Washington has an opportunity with our Human Resources department. Reporting to the Assistant Director of HR, we're a small HR team of 5, so everyone's contributions count. We support over 400 diverse classified and professional staff, and well as over 1,000 student staff in the areas of dining, housing, administration, technology, student & financial services, communication & marketing, residential life and facilities.
Working with the Assistant Director of HR, provide guidance and counsel to managers on proactive methods for assessing and addressing employee performance concerns, corrective action, complaint resolution and informal and final counseling meetings with Union representatives
Participate in grievances and provide consultation on effective resolution.
Administer the communication and documentation of FMLA, ADA and Workers Compensation related absences.
Manage ADA reasonable accommodation process for HFS.
Manage Department of Labor and Industries return-to-work.
Represent HFS on L&I-related Risk Management teams and committees.
Provide a monthly report of leave administration activities.
Training and Development
Manage training provided by HFS HR and serve as the subject matter expert on adult learning.
Provide consultation to HFS units seeking guidance on training.
Prepare and/or present training materials.
Provide feedback to HR staff on training and presentations.
Provide consultation to supervisors on employee development.
Provide consultation to employees seeking guidance on professional development.
A Bachelor's degree in education, human resources or other related field; and 4 years relevant work experience in an office or academic setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Organizational abilities that demonstrate the ability to get results while working with a diverse group with competing priorities.
Exceptional writing skills.
Successful experience planning and executing projects with defined timelines and goals.
Computer literacy, with ability to create, manipulate and report data from Excel, MS Access and MS Word and utilize Web-based technologies for information sharing.
Ability to work effectively as a team member or independently as required.
Diplomacy and ability to gain cooperation of staff with diverse abilities, interests and priorities.
Ability to respond to changing priorities with active, constructive and appropriate activities.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute for required qualifications.
