THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, OFFICE OF ACADEMICAFFAIRS, is seeking afull-time Senior Counselor to jointhe Student Counseling Center. The selected candidate will work independentlyto provide counseling services to students with personal mental health and/orschool related issues. The selected candidate will provide short term/solutionfocused counseling using cognitive behavioral therapy. Experience working with issues related tosubstance abuse and/or eating disorders is highly desirable.

Maintainsclinical case load of individual student clients, and conducts individual,couples and group short term, solution focused counseling.
Identifies andevaluates student's current mental health needs and develops a treatmentplan. When appropriate, makes referralsto consulting psychiatrist and appropriate community agencies.
Performsemergency services including triage and crisis intervention.
Develops anddelivers presentations on mental health/wellness related topics.
Consults withother clinicians and works effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinarytreatment team.
Maintains andcompletes case management notes in a timely manner and other accountabilitymeasures consistent with center's established timeline. Performs clinical chart reviews.
Providespreventive, protective, or supportive services to individuals or groups who arein or threatened by situations detrimental to their wellbeing or that of thecommunity.
Serve as mentalhealth consultant to university stakeholders.
Education:Master's or Doctorate degree in Social Work
Licensure:Licensed as Certified Social Work (LCSW) in the State of Maryland; Licensed asCertified Social Worker Clinical (LCSW-C) preferred.
Experience:One (1) year post-licensure (LCSW) experiencein related area of treatment including responsibility for training, workcoordination, and monitoring the work of others. 3 years post licensureexperience preferred.
Education: Master's or Doctorate degree in a relatedfield, such as Psychology
Licensure: Licensed as Licensed CertifiedProfessional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Maryland
Experience: One (1) year post-licensure (LCPC) experiencerelated experience in area of treatment including responsibility for training,work coordination, and monitoring the work of others. 3 years of post-licensure experience and PhDin Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited programpreferred.
3 years of relevant experience rendering mental healthservices to adults in a mental health community organization, institution ofhigher learning or private practice
Experience working in a University Counseling Center .
Experience with cognitive behavioral treatment .
Specialized experience working with issues related tosubstance abuse and/or eating disorders
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of best practices in the field as well as relevantfederal, state, and local rules, regulations, and programs/policies utilizingproper application of diagnostic tools.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interactwith a diverse client population using various approved interviewing techniquesand consultative approaches.
Ability to continuously seek improvements in order tosupport the goals and strategic mission of the program.
Ability to use measurable and verifiable information forresolving problems and facilitating decision-making processes.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.Ability to manage situations with tact, diplomacy, understanding, and fairness.Ability to maintain confidentiality of clients and information obtained duringtreatment.
Demonstrated leadership ability and effective oral andwritten communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information inaccordance with professional standards, HIPAA (Health Information Portability& Accountability Act) and FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act)and state regulations.
Ability to work as part of a team, as well as withindividuals and/or families from diverse ethnic, racial, and socio-economicbackgrounds.
Skill in supervision of mental health professionals andtrainees.
Knowledge of the challenges facing graduate and professionalstudents.
Ability to manage conflict and to communicate effectivelyduring problem-solving. Flexibility andwillingness to work during non-office hours. Ability to perform essential duties under stressful situations.
Demonstrate skills in program coordination. Experience with assessment/data collection and preparing reports asassigned. Interest in monitoringcounseling center's web page software.
