The Pharmacy Department has over 380 staff members who provide comprehensive inpatient pharmacy services as well as outpatient services via 2 cancer centers and 4 outpatient pharmacies pharmacy services. The Department has accredited residencies in pharmacy practice and health-system pharmacy management and is affiliated with schools of pharmacy in California. Pharmacist Resident- Medication Systems Use and Technology Systems Summary of Essential Job Duties: The residency training in Medication Use Systems and Technology is designed to develop operational knowledge and skills in key aspects of the medication use process including medication procurement, storage and preparation, as well as the role of technology in supporting these functions. The resident will apply their knowledge to improve medication safety and quality of care at the operations level. The resident will gain management skills as well as an understanding of the day-to-day functioning of a hospital pharmacy department.
Qualification Requirements/Preferences: Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities Educational Requirements: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. ❑ Current pharmacy licensure in California or licensure midway through residency year ❑ Excellent written and verbal communication skills ❑ Project management skills ❑ Knowledge of office software, e.g., Microsoft Office ❑ Ability to serve as preceptor for students ❑ Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards relative to hospital pharmacy ❑ Clinical knowledge in drug therapy management of common disease, conditions and procedures ❑ Ability to evaluate medications regimen to meet patient needs ❑ BLS certification as outlined in the Pharmacist Responsibilities in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(C.P.R.) and Code Blue Procedure: Pharmacy Policy and Procedure License/Certification/Registration Requirements: See Above Experience: See Above Physical Demands: (e.g., lifting, standing, walking) ❑ Frequent standing; walking, bending; reaching, occasional sitting, pushing & pulling, lifting of materials up to 40 pounds for distances to 10 feet. ❑ Responsiveness to auditory alarms and communication devices including: telephones, beepers, fire alarms, and mechanical failure alarms. ❑ Sufficient mobility to access equipment, patients and other customers. ❑ Able to read information on medication labels Work Environment (work environments, hazards and exposures the employee may encounter on the job): ❑ Hazardous drug and investigational biologic drugs preparation and handling ❑ Exposure to minimal but constant noise levels. ❑ Repetitive hand motions. ❑ Some functions may include incidental exposure to hazards associated with preparation of cytotoxic medications. ❑ Some functions may require use of protective gear such as gloves and fluid-resistant coats.
