The Marin School, an independent college-preparatory high school in San Rafael, California, seeks a full-time Librarian.
The Marin School currently serves 100 students in grades 9-12 with the goal to grow enrollment over the next 3 years. The Marin School seeks a highly qualified, forward thinking, collaborative educator to be its librarian. The librarian will plan, direct, implement, promote, and evaluate the library program. The librarian will empower students to be enthusiastic readers, critical thinkers, researchers, and ethical users of gathered information. The librarian will provide faculty members with resources to supplement their curricula, whether in-house or accessed through technology. The librarian will also provide leadership and expertise in collection development, selecting and maintaining print and digital resources that represent diverse perspectives and needs. The librarian will create a learning environment that is easily accessible, aesthetically pleasing, and inviting to students and faculty. In addition to the qualifications detailed below, the successful candidate will be upbeat, innovative, patient, and able to connect with students both as young scholars and as individuals.
Manages the daily operations of the TMS Library.
Provides technical services for the TMS Library users.
Supervises, assists and manages students using the library and required freshman Study Halls in library.
Staffs the circulation desk.
Processes and shelves library materials.
Manages use of school-owned chromebooks.
Maintains subscriptions for database products, eBooks and other electronic resources.
Works to make the library a welcoming, pleasant, and helpful environment.
Promotes and furthers information literacy for all students through planning, instruction, and provision of necessary support to faculty.
Provides reference assistance to students, faculty, and parents.
Works with faculty to coordinate reading promotion efforts, along with wider-ranging curricular issues such as innovation, creativity, racial and gender literacy and other areas.
Develops and maintains a collection of information resources in all formats that serve the curriculum demands, personal interests, and pleasure reading needs of the community.
Publicizes the library, its services and collections to promote the role of the library in the life and curriculum of the school
Works with our Director of IT to plan for and implement use of new and emerging information technology on campus.
Coordinates and schedules use of the library for meetings, classes and other events.
Participates actively in the life of TMS, and particularly around student life, through attendance at meetings, involvement in activities and interest in the school community.
Keeps abreast of current practices and issues in librarianship through journal reading, membership in associations, and attendance at conferences and other professional-development events.
Other duties as assigned
MLS/MLIS degree, or similar advanced degree, from an ALA-accredited program or currently enrolled in an MLIS program.
Proficient with MS Office Suite, Google Docs, database management, and a proven ability to learn new technology quickly.
Three to five years experience working in a library, preferably in a managerial role at a school.
Experience working with high school or college students.
Extensive knowledge of library-specific applications and information systems.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Proactive in planning, problem solving, executing, and communicating.
Trustworthy and loyal. Demonstrated ability to use good judgment and maintain confidentiality.
