The Special Assistant to the Dean is responsible for organizing and coordinating the day-to-day dean’s office operations and procedures in order to ensure organizational effectiveness and efficiency. The Special Assistant to the Dean is primarily responsible for providing administrative support and assistance to the Dean. Serves as a liaison between the Dean and the Dean’s staff, University central administration, other schools and external constituencies. Works closely with senior WCL and AU administrators to ensure open communication and progress on issues that affect WCL and the University. The Special Assistant keeps in close and regular contact with the Dean to stay abreast of the Dean’s priorities and evolving issues and concerns, enabling the Special Assistant to speak for the Dean when necessary. The Special Assistant oversees the allocation of the Dean’s time and contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies and procedures.
Bachelor's degree is required. J.D. preferred.
At least 5 years of progressively professional experience
Excellent writing verbal, and interpersonal skills
Exceptional analytical capacity and organizational skills and ability to work under minimal supervision
Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while maintaining a high level of professionalism
Strong technical skills, including proficiency with MS Word and, working knowledge of Outlook Organizer, Netscape Communicator, Datatel, and Microsoft Access
Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, design, and execute multiple complex projects simultaneously with attention to detail and high level of excellence
Ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with varied levels of university constituencies
Experience in higher education practices and procedures
Statistical skills a plus
A very high level of discretion is required from this position due to exposure and access to highly confidential and sensitive information. Must have ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
