The Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion is committed to the development, evaluation, and dissemination of innovative and effective health promotion interventions that address key health issues, as well as health promotion and advocacy training activities for faculty and students. The Monday Campaigns have been developed around the idea that Monday, as the first day of the week and a day when most people restart their normal routines, can be used to help individuals commit to healthy behaviors that help end chronic preventable diseases. This day of the week can motivate people to eat less meat, exercise more, quit smoking and work on other behaviors to improve their health and welfare. The Meatless Monday Campaign, as the primary example, has gained much attention, with many media stories, endorsement by celebrity chefs, and adoption of the campaign concept by many organizations, both in the U.S. and in many other countries. The Lerner Center will be working with the Monday Campaigns to extend the reach and effectiveness of these campaigns. This work could involve three distinct but complementary roles: (1) serve as a coordinator of the Monday Campaign work, particularly around strategies to improve physical activity, diet, stress reduction, worksite wellness, etc; (2) collaborate with Lerner Center staff and the Monday Campaigns on implementation of Healthy Monday initiatives in Baltimore and beyond; and, (3) undertake pilot projects and other research initiatives to continue to build the evidence base for, and to learn how to improve the effectiveness of the Monday Campaigns more generally.
The Project Coordinator will work closely with Lerner Center staff to effectively implement Healthy Monday program activities as described above. Specific duties include:
Manage all campus and community Healthy Monday initiatives, including identifying and collaborating with community organizations through the Lerner Community Scholars program.
Cultivate and develop new partnerships and maintain current partnerships.
Assist with evaluation and dissemination of Healthy Monday programs through research and education.
Provide oversight of MPH, MHS, and MSPH graduate students.
Assist with writing and managing research reports, papers and proposals.
Work with the Director and Deputy Director to set direction, build and manage work plan implementation and coordination of Healthy Monday initiatives.
Develop and maintain a detailed project plan and coordinate the work effort of internal teams.
Prepare and submit project plans for IRB review, develop study related materials, and conduct data management for research studies.
Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
Three years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Masters degree in related field.
Training and experience in health communication, marketing, program planning and evaluation, and public health.
Knowledge of health behavior change and health communication theory.
