Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Mgr-Rsrch Compliance &Conflict of Interest.
The primary responsibility of the Conflict of Interest (COI) Manager is to provide timely identification and critical analysis of potential conflicts of interest arising out of the business of the Medical Center, including clinical and research activities, related to the outside interests and activities of faculty and other personnel. The COI Manager works with faculty and other personnel to ensure that potential conflicts are reviewed and submitted for efficient evaluation by the Medical Centers conflict committees in accordance with Medical Center policy and applicable laws and regulations. This position also ensures that appropriate COI management plans are developed, including input from faculty, staff and other Medical Center offices as appropriate, and regularly monitored. The COI Manager works under the general direction of the Vice President, Internal Audit, Compliance & Enterprise Risk Management with dotted line responsibilities to the Director, Corporate Compliance & Integrity. The position also works regularly with General Counsel, Legal affairs staff, as well as the Office of Industrial Liaison and the Office of Science & Research. In addition, the COI Manager will lead various Research Compliance initiatives such as developing work plans; conducting focused reviews and investigations; and developing policies, procedures, and training resources.
Demonstrates knowledge of the Medical Centers conflict policies and any laws and regulations related to conflicts and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
Assists the Director of Research Integrity and Compliance with various research compliance activities including support of the Annual Work Plan, Sponsored Programs and Research Compliance Committee, and special projects.
Provides and documents timely identification of and critical analysis on conflict issues arising from the Medical Center business activities, including clinical and research activities, related contractual matters, regulatory compliance, and the annual/research disclosures processes.
Works with the Office of Industrial Liaison, the Office of Science & Research and the Office of Legal Counsel to proactively address conflict matters arising out of technology licensing, sponsored research and clinical trials.
Prepares significant conflict matters for review and evaluation by the Medical Centers senior administration and conflict committees including COI Management Plans as appropriate.
Advises on the Medical Centers conflict of interest policies and procedures related to conflict evaluations, management, and compliance with applicable regulations.
Assists the Director, Corporate Compliance and Integrity in continuing efforts to assess and improve the efficiency of conflicts processes and matters at the Medical Center, including on matters related to the Medical Centers COI policies, procedures, supporting technology(ies), communications, and training.
Reviews and comments upon faculty consulting agreements and other agreements and circumstances that raise conflict questions to assure consistency with the Medical Centers policies and other relevant requirements.
Works with Research Grant & Project Auditor to ensure the timely development and monitoring of conflict management plans as well as processes to address non-compliance.
Develops work plans, conducts focused reviews and investigations; and develops policies, procedures, and training resources.
Provide guidance and assistance to the NYULMC community by answering individual inquiries in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree with 5 Years relevant work experience, addressing conflicts of interest and in applying regulations for an academic medical center, or the equivalent experience in a related area of hospital or research administration. Strong academic background. Proven excellent analytical, oral and written communication (including presentation), advising and project management skills Demonstrated judgment and discretion Ability to understand, apply, and communicate complicated policies and laws and regulations at all levels with the Medical Center while maintaining high level of confidentiality Ability to work independently and to make decisions on projects without additional oversight Ability to successfully collaborate with individuals at various levels throughout the Medical Center to elicit needed information, discuss sensitive information, and develop workable solutions to meet applicable policies and protect the Medical Center and its core missions. Ability to work closely with the Medical Centers General Counsel, and other members of the Office of Legal Counsel, and other members of senior Medical Center and departmental leadership. Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a fast paced, deadline driven environment with multiple priorities and stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree in the biological sciences, public health, or business ; or J.D. Extensive knowledge and understanding of regulations and laws related to financial interests in research, as well as corporate and industrial relationships that raise potential conflicts of interest and ethical considerations in the performance of medicine and/or the conduct of research. Experience with software for financial interest reporting, IRB and/or pre-award grants and award management or similar software in a university or academic medical center environment.
