The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, launched in the academic year 2016-2017, is comprised of the university's three accredited business schools: the School of Hotel Administration, the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management. The Program Assistant will provide day-to-day support and planning of the Center/Institute programming, working directly under the guidance of the Senior Program Manager.
Program C&I Administrative Support:
Under general supervision, in a service-oriented environment, provides a high level of support to the senior program managers and program managers for one or more centers/institutes in the School of Hotel Administration. Tasks include, but not limited to, day-to-day administrative tasks related to the center/institute's programs, events, roundtables, conferences, board meetings and other miscellaneous events. The individual will also assist in the preparation of meetings and presentations, drafting correspondence and other documents, managing calendars, gathering data, internet research, annual reporting, and administrative duties as assigned. This person must be able to work independently as an effective member of the C&I team. The individual will promotes quality in all tasks; supports the goals of the C&I in a professional manner; and creates a professional, team and service-oriented atmosphere. (50%)
Serve as the editorial assistant for the editor of the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly (CQ). Work closely with the academic editor of the CQ to handle the administration of journal correspondence and operations. Duties may include but are not limited to tracking the progress of submissions, corresponding with authors, responding to complex and non-routine inquiries. Manage complimentary subscriber lists and editorial board lists. Handle all logistics for the Editorial Board meeting(s). Become the expert on the ScholarOne manuscript system. Responsible for working with publisher to oversee, manage, and facilitate all joint initiatives and projects of the (CQ). Responsible for updating and accuracy of CQ web pages. Serve as point of contact for Sage Publications on all CQ non- editorial related matters. (30%)
Publication Coordinator, Center and Institutes Reports and Tools:
Work with Center for Hospitality Research (CHR) Academic Director, as well as other center and institutes' directors as necessary, to handle administration of Center Reports and Tools. Tracks progress of submissions, corresponding with authors as well as updating stakeholders routinely on status. Become the expert on the MSTracker manuscript system. Maintain complex calendar of deadlines and keeps directors apprised. (20%)
This is a full-time, temporary position anticipated to run through October of 2017.
Required Qualifications: Two-year degree in business or related field or equivalent, three (3) to four (4) years, of related experience. Must have good written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and prioritization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Customer service and professional demeanor (tact). Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality. Must be able to work nonstandard hours if needed.
Technical Required Competencies: Must be proficient in a variety of computer-based software systems including, but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, and MS Office Suite (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
