The Rockefeller University seeks an Assistant Director of Development Communications to join Development. Working as part of a highly collaborative group of development professionals, the Assistant Director of Development Communications will support a dynamic development team through writing, editing, and conceptualizing material that communicates the transformational science at Rockefeller. Will produce compelling fundraising materials, working closely with the Senior Vice-President for Development and Senior Directors to shape content tailored to high-level donors and prospects. Responsibilities include drafting a wide range of materials including correspondence, major gift proposals to individual and foundation prospects, donor reports and program descriptions. Will produce briefing materials for University faculty, senior staff and volunteers, and draft remarks at fundraising events. The Assistant Director of Development Communications will also have a role in drafting, editing, and production of brochures and other publications for both print and electronic communication platforms.
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred. Must have demonstrated, extensive experience in one or more related fields (development communications, science journalism), exceptional written communication skills and the ability to adapt those talents into writing in a clear and consistent manner, reflective of the University's culture and commitment to excellence, the ability to synthesize complex information and translate it into precise and accessible prose, strong attention to detail, and accuracy, including the ability to proofread a diversity of material for grammar, style and "voice". Must be capable of handling multiple writing assignments at once, with rapid turnaround, and able to meet deadlines and on-demand requests for written materials. Ability to thrive in a collegial, fast-paced office noted for its atmosphere of collaboration necessary. Experience working with development software and MS Word necessary; knowledge of Blackbaud CRM and Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
