Advertised Summary Job Description: The Department of Neurology is seeking a Patient Access Coordinator-Neuropsychology who will work on Pre-Certification/Authorization for procedures and admissions within its units. The position is responsible for obtaining Pre-Certification for procedures to ensure reimbursement is maximized through required interaction with third party payors. This position reports into the Practice Administrator and the Director of Clinical Operations and indirectly to Director of Revenue Cycle.
Duties include abut are not limited to:
*Contacts appropriate insurance companies for benefit verification and pre-certification primarily for Neuropsychological Testing on occasion may involve pre-authorization for associated visit procedures including Botox Injections, Occipital Nerve Blocks, Sleep Studies & EMU for any/all sections within the department. *Initiate & facilitate Pre-Determinations as required by specific payors. Supply all documentation required during pre-certification & pre-determination process to all payors. *Ensure all necessary authorizations and referrals have been received and entered in IDX/CROWN. *Counsels patients and families on financial procedures, specifically regarding self-pay policies & out of pocket expenses. *Ensure all necessary authorizations and referrals have been received and entered in IDX/CROWN. *Act as liaison between internal & external customers including patients, healthcare professionals, administrative & clinical office staff. Communicates any changes in requirements and pre-certification issues with the appropriate section. *Coordinate admissions into the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, maintain all stakeholders informed on admission status. *Assist with obtaining pre-certification for ancillary tests. Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience, plus two years of related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Previous pre-certification experience required. Knowledge of IDX, and EMR and insurance plans and basic medical terminology. Ability to participate as a team member. Self-motivated with strong analytical skills. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
