The Vice President for Patient Access Services (PAS) provides leadership for adult ambulatory patient access to ensure customer-focused, results-oriented performance in alignment with the mission, vision and credo of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). This Vice President will oversee all aspects of PAS, including information management, Capacity Analytics, Care Connections patient call center, Customer Service and Quality teams, financial management, and partnerships with stakeholders across the organization to create programs enhancing access to care.
This individual will work closely with the clinical chairs and operational leaders throughout VUMC to ensure optimal patient access strategies are developed, implemented, and sustained to support seamless patient service across the Vanderbilt care continuum. The Vice President is charged to lead access-focused initiatives that create and support exceptional patient access and service, faculty and staff satisfaction, growth and volume management, technology advancement, and strong financial performance with superior efficiency and productivity.
This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer of the Adult Operating Division with a dotted line to the Chief Medical Officer and the Vanderbilt Medical Group (VMG) Board.
Oversees all operations of Patient Access Services including, but not limited to: capacity and data analysis, customer service quality, care connections frontline patient contact center and vendor/technology management.
Partners with administrative and faculty leadership to ensure that effective processes are implemented that enhance the patientâs experience with VUMC.
Collaborates with VUMC providers as well as referring providers to improve access to care for our patients.
Builds and maintains positive and effective relationships with all constituencies within VUMC to include: Clinical Department Chairs and Vice Chairs, Vanderbilt University Hospital leadership, The Monroe Carell Jr. Childrenâs Hospital at Vanderbilt leadership, the Psychiatric Hospital at Vanderbilt leadership.
Partners with members of the Vanderbilt Health Affiliate Network to ensure Patient Access Services is aligned for an efficient and superior patient experience across the Vanderbilt care continuum.
Develops, implements, and manages business, operational, standardization, and other programs to drive optimal performance of adult ambulatory patient access to care.
Establishes and monitors goals in collaboration with Adult Enterprise (AE) leadership and VMG Board to ensure an efficient use of organizational resources.
Establishes best practices for access and capacity management approaches working in conjunction with the clinical chairs, and senior Adult Enterprise (AE) leadership, and other VUMC senior leaders.
Collaborates with IT in the design, adoption, and optimization of access-related tools and technology, such as: Epic optimization, referring provider portals, provider on-call systems, call center systems, and capacity management tools. Oversees the process to align people, process, and technology to ensure meaningful use of clinical documentations systems.
Manages vendor relationship(s) and contract(s) with supplier(s) to ensure business continuity and planning for disaster recovery.
Participates in the development of strategic operational goals and objectives for VUMC and the AE. Supports the operating needs of Institutes, Patient Care Clinics (PCCs), Departments, and VUMC.
Identifies long range productivity improvement goals and opportunities within PAS and the broader access to care continuum.
Develops and manages annual operating and capital budgets for all areas of direct responsibility. Conducts return on investment (ROI) analyses on capital expenditures as needed. Assists in identifying opportunities for expense savings and/or revenue enhancement. Analyzes budget variances while implementing improvement initiatives as needed.
Actively contributes to analysis and evaluation of VUMC financial statements and other indicators of performance, as well as lead opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce cost, increase revenue, and improve overall VUMC performance.
Provides global direction for VUMC access strategy by developing short-term and long-term patient access and operational goals.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of the patient access industry.
