Our Department of Enrollment Management has an outstanding opportunity for a Designated School Official (DSO).This individual is responsible for and serve as a designated school official (DSO), managing an international student caseload to help students understand the interaction of federal regulations and University policies to ensure University's compliance with the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) required reporting, system, and, support academic and educational concerns.
Administer, evaluate and issue I-20's for all UW Bothell incoming and current International Students, answer questions pertaining to international travel, status and school transfers.
Collaborate and facilitate workshops for international students and across campus related to immigration and cultural information.
Organize and lead orientation sessions each quarter focused on immigration and cross cultural transitions.
Stay informed about current immigration rules and procedures.
Responsible for orientation sessions and other advising sessions necessary to support international students.
Report student information in the SEVIS database as necessary for compliance with SEVP regulations.
Create innovative ways to support student services.
Work across campus with other departments directly relating to international students, particularly with academic advisors, student engagement, counselors and support services.
Recruit international students in collaboration with international admission recruiter and supervisor.
Attend as needed transfer fairs, high school or regional community colleges to meet with international students to discuss admission to UW Bothell.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in International Studies or related field.
At least 2 years' experience advising diverse populations in an educational setting.
Knowledge of DHS regulations pertaining to F-1 students. Knowledge of SEVIS regulations and reporting required as a DSO.
Strong communication skills; excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with the public, students, faculty, and community members including those from various cultural and socio-economic groups.
Ability to collect data and create reports using database systems.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to student records, information systems, admissions, immigration and registration.
Presentation and advising skills that demonstrate commitment to best methods including use of technology.
Experience with international orientations at a higher education institutions to include presentations, planning and implementing orientation.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Master's degree in a related field.
2-3 years' experience in a university setting as a DSO, international student advising and recruitment.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work to be performed in a shared office space, fast paced and interactive.
This position may need to work beyond or outside of a typical 40 hour work week; occasional evening and weekend work is required.
Travel is required in state and some out of state travel. Must be willing to travel and possess a valid Washington State Driver's license.
Must be able to lift/move approximately 50 pounds of recruiting material.
