The HR Specialist supports the day-to-day operations of the EHRA Non-Faculty unit in the Office of Human Resources. The HR Specialist performs professional & comprehensive HR tasks including, but not limited to:
assisting the unit in carrying out various human resource programs, procedures & initiatives
assisting in administration of the EHRA Non-Faculty compensation program
monitoring the EHRA Non-Faculty performance appraisal process
coordinating the on boarding process which may include conducting new hire orientations & entry of all associated data.
addressing/assisting with employee or management concerns & questions, & determining an appropriate course of action, either referring employees to appropriate staff or resolving situations
providing analysis regarding salary equity issues pertaining to new hires, reclassification (SHRA to EHRA conversion), equity requests & other salary increase requests & serving as back-up for Consultant for salary review & approval process
consulting with the EHRA Non-Faculty HR Director, communicate & deliver training solutions to campus clients
approving lump sum payments (overload, dual employment, awards) in compliance with established policies
managing establishment of temporary EHRA Non-Faculty positions & monitoring temporary employment process
assisting with development of metrics & client service assessments & maintaining tracking & reporting for various human resource functions The HR Specialist collaborates with the EHRA Non-Faculty HR Director in the analysis & formulation of policy & key procedures related to non-faculty personnel, participates on projects or teams within the unit, department or division as assigned; & provides support to the director & team as necessary.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Experience applying, communicating and promoting human resources procedural best practices that support the university in achieving stated goals and objectives. At least one year of experience in one or more human resources functional areas such as: classification, compensation, employment, policy administration or talent management. Ability to adapt procedures to changing situations, needs and/or deadlines and maintain productive and collaborative work relationships. Review and process information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules or regulations. Ability to evaluate situations and provide guidance based on established policies, regulations and procedures. Considerable ability to exercise judgment, discretion and negotiation skills in problem situations. Ability to independently respond to inquiries and coordinate a variety of resources in acquiring and disseminating information. Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle difficult situations in a professional manner. Demonstrated abilities to effectively provide customer service, prioritize to meet deadlines, be organized, multi-task, and function as part of a team in a deadline-driven, high-volume environment. Ability to complete assigned work with a high level of accuracy and attention-to-detail.
Prior HR experience and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and Outlook.
