Tutors in the Academic Excellence Office play a vital role in ensuring that students succeed in law school and pass the bar exam. Tutors meet with students on a regular basis and teach them essential skills such as critical reading, case briefing, rule synthesis, course outlining, IRAC, legal analysis, exam preparation, and time management. At Mitchell Hamline, tutoring is open to all students, regardless of class rank.
As members of the Academic Excellence team, tutors will have access to meeting space and school resources to use in their teaching. Tutors are also invited to attend team meetings and participate in program development as their interests and schedules permit.
We have found that the highest and best use of our tutors' time is teaching, so we do our best to provide support so our tutors can focus on teaching. For example, we provide a comprehensive and organized binder of all teaching materials and exercises you may need, training, and mentorship.
We pay a competitive hourly rate for our tutors' time. More importantly, your students will pay you with much gratitude for being the reason they succeed.
Qualifications: JD degree from an ABA accredited law school; demonstrated excellence in legal writing and analysis; demonstrated ability to communicate in an effective manner, both orally and in writing; previous tutoring, mentoring, or teaching experience preferred.
