The Safety Assistant is responsible for overseeing students using the sculpture studio, which includes: metal shop, wood shop, CNC router, and student work stations. This position ensures adherence to University safety protocols and helps to maintain a clean, well- organized shop environment with fully functioning equipment. In the event of an injury, this position is responsible for treating an injury using supplies in the first aid kit, or, calling for emergency services in the event of a more severe accident. The position requires giving corrective instructions and limited demonstrations on the proper use of tools, equipment, and supplies. The position is scheduled to work evenings and some weekends.
Experience in a variety of fabrication techniques, i.e., woodworking, metalworking, assemblage, maker space
Knowledge of and experience with a wide variety of wood and metal shop equipment including: table and band saws, routers, drill presses, welding and manual cold metal shop tools, as well as hand-held power tools.
Ability to provide clear corrective instructions as needed, including dismissing students who fail to comply with safety protocols.
Responsible, organized, patient, personable and punctual.
