Administrative Assistant provides primary administrative support for the Communications Department consisting of approximately 30 faculty, 800 undergraduate majors, and 20 graduate students. This position provides administrative support to the department head to include personnel, finance, fiscal activities (including budget development) with multiple accounts, and department administrative management.
- Administrative support experience in an academic or professional office environment. - Experience in bookkeeping, including budget development and preparation of financial reports using Excel spreadsheets, and/or other accounting applications and database management systems. - Experience working in a Windows operating environment using software such as MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook. - Ability to make independent judgments appropriate to position, and to work with and prioritize confidential materials. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of BANNER software, finance, HR, student. - Knowledge of university fiscal policies as they apply to academic departments. - Knowledge of Virginia Tech Foundation and graduate school policies. - Familiarity with student BANNER processes. - Knowledge of PeopleAdmin, Travel Expense Management System, TimeClock Plus, MicroStrategy, Emergency Action Plan systems and Canvas.
