Project Renewal is seeking to hire a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead the day to day operations of a multi-site, comprehensive service delivery organization with a budget of over $80 million and a staff of 950. The COO will work closely with the CEO and executive team to enhance the infrastructure and strengthen systems to improve the efficiency, quality and delivery of services and to prepare the agency for further growth. Project Renewal delivers the most comprehensive array of services to the homeless population of any organization in New York City.

Project Renewal has seen steady growth and is now hiring a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead the day to day operations of the organization. This is a new position that reports directly to the President and CEO. The successful candidate will be a mission-focused, seasoned, strategic and process-minded leader with experience serving in a senior organizational capacity and leading an executive management team. The COO must be a leader who is able to assess and build the infastructure systems to deliver measurable, cost-effective results that make the agency’s vision a reality. The COO will oversee all operations, quality assurance and compliance of the mental health and substance use disorder programs and the FQHC. Importantly, the successful COO will have the skills, sensitivity and personal confidence to tap into the power that each member of the team brings to this mission. While it is essential that the COO bring efficient and effective systems to increase the productivity of the organization, it is also critical that the team retain the “client focus” that drives the mission. The crisis of homelessness and the changing landscape of healthcare create both a challenge and an opportunity for the COO to be innovative and creative.
Reporting to the President & CEO, the COO will lead all day to day operations and oversee the following major functions: Programs, Medical, Human Resources, IT, Facilities, Fleet and Security.
He/she will serve as the internal leader of the organization as well as support the CEO in external meetings, including those with city and state officials.
Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization.
Provide strong day-to-day leadership; support an open-door policy among all staff; cultivate the values of Project Renewal throughout the organization.
Participate in the planning, development and implementation of short and long term strategic objectives, budgets, programs and policies and provide support to board planning initiatives, meetings and reports.
Ensure that appropriate organizational structure and infrastructure systems are in place to support programmatic objectives and facilitate the delivery of quality, client focused services while managing for current and future growth.
The successful candidate must believe in the core values of Project Renewal and be driven by its mission. The candidate should have proven experience in growing a complex multi-site organization and a demonstrated ability to both lead and build the capabilities of a dedicated and diverse team. The COO must be passionate about serving the organization’s clients and be energetic, opportunistic, a problem solver and able to respond to and resolve crises quickly and effectively.

Thorough understanding of finance, systems and human resources.
Undergraduate degree required, with an MBA or related advanced degree highly preferred.
A minimum of ten years in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
Experience with healthcare delivery and funding streams, homelessness organizations and/or other related agencies highly desirable.
