Responsible for the full range of unit responsibilities, including collection development, maintenance and preservation; reference assistance in support of the academic and research use of the collection; and outreach and instruction to the HWS community.
Manage all phases of activity of the Archives and Special Collections unit and maintain a regular and convenient service schedule for public access for the collections.
Plan, coordinate, and direct activities, projects and work flows in the unit, supervising staff and students as appropriate.
Maintain an active collection development program, coordinate collection development with subject liaisons and other relevant constituents.
Develop policies and procedures for the acquisitions, arrangement, descriptions, preservation of and access to the collections.
Arrange and describe the holdings of the unit; provide access to the materials through inventories, finding aids, and other descriptive means.
Maintain and improve the Colleges’ archival program and promote fuller cooperation and participation with select offices.
Maintain and enhance the unit’s digital collections through current hosting technology and online exhibits.
Assist patrons, both HWS-community and outside, on-site and remote, with research requests requiring access to unit resources.
Conduct instruction sessions, both general and course specific, in a variety of settings.
Participate in subject liaison areas and associated responsibilities including collection development and subject guides.
Represent the library on colleges and regional committees.
Other duties as assigned.
MLS from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent
Minimum of 1 year experience working in a rare book, special collections, archive, or museum environment
Technological expertise related to trends in special collections librarianship services, digital collections, and the archiving and preservation of manuscript collections
Demonstrated knowledge of information resources in all formats
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability and commitment to work effectively and creatively as part of a team
Experience with ArchivesSpace, ContentDM, Omeka, and the Springshare suite of tools preferred.
