The Division of Growth and Nutritionin the Department of Pediatrics is seeking an Outreach Worker to carry out twoschool-based interventions as part of an obesity prevention research study.This candidate will work with selected schools throughout Maryland todistribute a Wellness Curriculum for a small group of elementary and middleschool students. The candidate will enable students receiving this curriculumto be well-versed on the importance of being active and eating healthy foods,and provide information on how to communicate health information to keystakeholders (administration and teachers) to enact policy change.

Monitors the recruitment of a clientbase within the community and oversees efforts geared to improve clientretention.
Participates in the development ofinformational and/or educational materials and literature.
Plans, organizes and implementscommunity special events such as health fairs and workshops.
Assists with various administrativefunctions such as the development of policies and procedures' programevaluations; budget administration; purchasing and space planning.
Performs all of the duties of aCommunity Outreach Worker II, as needed.
High school diploma or GED, Bachelor's degree in healtheducation, education, public health preferred
Four years of experience in community outreach, health care,research and/or social services, two years of which involved lead workerresponsibility providing guidance and training over other staff.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of community and/or social service resources and programs.Skill in conducting interviews and assessing client needs. Ability tocommunicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish andmaintain effective working relationships. Ability to operate computers andother office equipment. Ability to write report and maintain records. Abilityto work in extreme weather conditions. Ability to perform extensive standingand walking. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters withdiscretion and tact. Ability to interact with the public, health careproviders, community organizations, and social service agencies. Ability tomaintain poise and courtesy under pressure. Ability to train, supervise, andevaluate personnel.
Other: Except for qualificationsestablished by law, additional related experience and formal education in whichone has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for fullperformance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the educationor experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college creditsbeing equivalent to one year of experience.
Conditions of Employment: Employeesin this job class may be required to use their personal automobile whileconducting official business and possess a valid Maryland Non-commercial ClassC or Commercial Class B Driver's License (CDL). Candidates selected foremployment may be subjected to medical inquiries and/or medical examination todetermine ability to perform the job. Employees in this job class may berequired to successfully pass a police background check.

SalaryRange: $35,728- $41,000
