Provide Pre-Award guidance in the processing of more complex research grant and contract proposals. Develop and maintain faculty and sponsor contacts. Assist in proposal development and training presentations.

Serve as primary resource for pre award grant questions; communicate with and recommend and advise faculty and staff regarding pre award issues; requests corrections and resolve discrepancies; interpret rules, regulations and compliance issues with respect to grant and contract proposals.
Initiate and maintain contact with faculty to assist in locating funding opportunities utilizing automated search processes via electronic media and other methods. Independently initiate funding opportunity search and disseminate findings to faculty.
Review terms and conditions of internal and external proposals and coordinates submission in the grant tracking system appropriately to allow for stakeholder notification, review, and approval.
Review and analyze various data sources to ensure current dissemination of information to faculty regarding changes to government regulations, including research safety.
Process and submit prior approval request to University Officials that includes actions such as indirect cost waiver and cost sharing. The Specialist ensures submission of these requests through UTA's grant tracking system when necessary.
Provides proposal development activities to ensure compliance for issues involving allowable costs, budgeting restrictions, regulatory requirements, time and effort, cost sharing, form and content requirements, etc.
Facilitates, reviews and approves budgets in compliance with sponsoring agencies’ regulations and university policies and procedures.
Review and document incoming and outgoing sub-awards in accordance with applicable University and Sponsor requirements.
Works with the PI and administrators to submit just-in-time requests in accordance with the sponsor and university guidelines and requirements when necessary.
Works in collaboration with the PI, Post Award Staff, and Regulatory Services to facilitate timely submission of necessary documentation for award setup. The Specialist ensures proposal status updates in UTA's grant tracking system.
Participate in special projects such as, development and presentation of training workshops, drafting, updating and amending pre award processes, procedures, and report development.
Assists management in the preparation of ad-hoc reports.
Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, social sciences, English or a related field. Advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite to include Excel, Access, and Word. Experience with the use of an organization wide integrated database. Two years' experience in the preparation and processing of research grants and/or contract proposals and in their administration.
Grant writing experience and/or experience editing proposals or other scientific documents for grammatical correctness is preferred. Excellent communication skills.
