The Director of College Counseling, after consultation with the Director of Guidance and Counseling, is appointed by the Head of School and is responsible to the Director of Guidance and Counseling. The Director of College Counseling is responsible for all aspects of the college counseling and application process.
Duties of the Director of College Counseling:
Reflect the Mission of Woodside Priory School to students, parents and colleges.
Inform students, parents, and faculty about admission requirements, tests dates, deadlines, and important trends in college admission.
Counsel students and their parents on college admission policies and college choice.
Write the school letter of recommendation for seniors, update the school profile yearly, and work with the Registrar to prepare transcripts and other necessary application documents.
Work with the Director of Guidance and Counseling to assure that students take all the necessary standardized tests.
Access information and transcripts in Powerschool for use in counseling students.
Represent the school in professional organization having to do with college admission and participate in conferences and workshops.
Maintain cordial relations with college admission offices and keep them informed about the school and applicants.
Visit colleges and universities on a regular basis.
Serves as a member of the Academic Affairs Committee.
Report all admission decisions to the Head of School and prepare a matriculation list for administration.
Attend the weekly meetings with the Director of Guidance and Counseling, the Head of Upper School, the Dean of Students, Middle School Dean, Dean of Residential Life and Director of Campus Ministry.
Prepare and annual budget for the College Counseling Office.
Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Guidance and Counseling and/or the Head of School.
Communicate with Junior and Senior families weekly via College Counseling Newsletter.
Educating families re: Financial Aid processes for college, application and test fee waivers, and scholarships as needed.
Work closely with Director of Diversity and Inclusion re: ACCESS students and college process.
Upkeep and management of NCAA course list.
Report all ELC (eligibility in local context) students to UC system.
Complete all Cal Grant GPA verifications for students applying
