Will administer prescribed respiratory therapeutic services across all SAH campuses to include specialized critical care areas.
Demonstrate extensive knowledge of function and mastery level application of all medical equipment utilized. Assist in maintenance of medical equipment, and in the evaluation of new devices/techniques. Organize tasks to optimize achievement of all work assigned those less skilled. Observe, instruct, and complete objectives of students and/or new employees. On occasion, distribute workload and function as Charge Therapist.
Perform at a mastery level regarding function, application, indication/contraindications for use, troubleshooting, maintaining and monitoring of all oxygen administration devices and patient requiring such. Advise Nursing/Medical staff as to techniques to improve oxygenation status of patient. Execution of rounds procedure to include titration protocols, all applicable documentation, equipment processing and troubleshooting.
Ensure safety and security of medication administration through use of PYXIS and pharmacy oversight/review processes. Possess, demonstrate, and communicate extensive knowledge of aerosolized cardiopulmonary drugs and alternative medication delivery such as Metered Dose Inhalers (MDI) and Dry Powder Inhalers (DPI) as well as drugs infused to maintain hemodynamic stability of the critically ill. Familiar with invasive and noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring techniques and the body's response to therapy, medications, modality manipulation, etc. Identify and respond to adverse effects associated with therapy, medication administration, and/or patient status.
Adeptly institute and maintain mechanical ventilation invasively for continuous use and monitor patients requiring such. Recommend/perform parameter adjustments to optimize ventilation/oxygenation. Possess full knowledge of and be able to converse intelligently with Nursing/Medical Staff regarding all currently used modalities of ventilation/oxygenation and assist in management of patient care individualized according to overall status. Performs detailed and accurate assessment of patient requiring mechanical ventilation and documents same each shift.
Conduct and assist in ECGs, exercise tolerance, holters, BIOZ's, and Prime ECG procedures. Ensure all test interpretations are sent to appropriate physicians in a timely manner. Recognize cardiac rhythmic abnormalities, especially cardiac or respiratory arrest, notify appropriate personnel according to well-established procedures, and initiate CPR if necessary.
Assist in Quality Assurance monitoring; environmental controls; infection control standards, and equipment selection, operation, application and inventory.
Perform various clerical duties such as: answer and correctly route telephone calls, schedule procedures per doctors' orders, enter data on CRT terminal, direct patients, visitors, salespeople, etc. to their respective destinations, and reconcile patient charges. Maintain work areas and equipment in a safe, clean, and orderly condition. Inform supervisor of any malfunctioning equipment.
Perform routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, clinical areas, restrooms and other assigned areas following established guidelines. Demonstrate the ability to utilize and maintain equipment in a safe and proper manner (including housekeeping cart). Utilize the appropriate cleaning agents and supplies according to established procedures.
Transport trash, hazardous waste, soiled linen, and recyclable trash to appropriate disposal areas.
Restock assigned areas and patient rooms with supplies, i.e. paper towels, toilet paper, soap, linen bags, gloves, sharp containers, and clean linen.
Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.
Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner (PRCP) licensure or letter of acknowledgment of receipt of application for a license as a Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner or Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) licensure by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. Registration as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Current CPR (Healthcare Provider).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
