POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Department of Physical Education invites applicants for a non-tenure-track and coaching/faculty position with specific expertise and coaching experience in gymnastics. The incumbent will teach classes in the Physical Education Curriculum and serve as an Assistant Gymnastics Coach for the United States Naval Academy.
This position is for 1-2 years commencing as early as 14 August 2017. Annual salary range and benefits for this position are competitive and dependent on the incumbents’ background and experience. DUTIES OF THIS POSITION: Assist with teaching, administration and supervision of the Physical Education curriculum and activities relating to the physical mission, including training and development of the midshipmen as assigned. Serve as a USNA Assistant Men’s Gymnastics coach. Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the Naval Academy, NAAAand NCAA. Maintain team discipline and morale. Work closely with, and support, the NAAA and Academy staff relative to the academic progress of the student-athletes under their supervision. Under the direction of the Head Gymnastics coach, coordinate scheduling and team travel arrangements practice schedules, and provides all NCAA forms required for monitoring of practice times. Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes, to include counseling team members in academic, disciplinary, sportsmanship and personal matters, as appropriate. Comply with all Institutional, NCAA, NAAA and Conference rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting.
Participate in the semester testing of the Brigade Physical Fitness Assessment.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Physical Education, the Head Gymnastics Coach and the Athletic Director.
QUALIFICATIONS: (Minimum requirements) Demonstrated knowledge to coach gymnastics at the elite level. Five (5) years of experience coaching gymnastics at the collegiate or elite athlete club level. A thorough understanding of the Code of Point by FIG and the NCAA’s interpretations and modifications of FIG. The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: Gymnastics, Boxing, Wrestling, Marital Arts, Swimming, Climbing, Kayaking, Personal Conditioning, Weight Training and Racquet Sports.
Willingness to submit to a background check.
Elite level coaching and/or competing experience at the NCAA Division I or International level.
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field.
