The American Gaming Association (AGA) is seeking a director of research to disseminate compelling research in support of AGA's strategic objectives. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the AGA is the premier national trade group representing the $240 billion U.S. casino gaming industry, which supports 1.7 million jobs in 40 states. It is the mission of the AGA to be the single most effective champion of the industry, relentlessly protecting against harmful and often misinformed public policies, paving a path for growth, innovation and reinvestment.
The research director manages, communicates, and disseminates compelling research in support of AGA’s strategic objectives. As part of the Public Affairs department, the research department is comprised of two directors who report to the Senior Director of Research. What the research department produces is a key component of the AGA value proposition. The director works closely with third-party vendors to ensure research is timely, relevant, and accessible and accurately supports the interests of the gaming industry. The director also supports internal departments in fulfilling member and media requests for information on the gaming industry.
Key areas of responsibility:
Manage Research Projects
Work with third-party vendors to evaluate and develop proposals, and to ensure research projects are completed on time, on scope, and on budget.
Effectively communicate research pipeline, status reports and potential hurdles to Senior Director, Research, and when appropriate, additional staff AGA leadership
Communicate Research Findings
Work with AGA communications team to ensure AGA-commissioned research is effectively leveraged and publicized to member organizations, media organizations, and policy-makers.
Act as an internal resource to effectively educate AGA staff at all levels on research outcomes, implications, and potential uses.
Advise on Research Application
Help other AGA staff take a business-minded approach to identifying how research can support strategic priorities.
Recommend and develop new research approaches or projects to the Senior Director in support of current and long-term priority issues.
Fulfill Requests for Research
Work with research department colleagues to design fulfillment processes that allows greatest accessibility to AGA research.
Fulfill research requests for both member organizations, media organizations and AGA staff ensuring research department resources are appropriately allocated in alignment with AGA priorities.
Keep abreast of industry trends, issues, and external research that impact AGA’s research agenda, and educate and advise AGA staff accordingly
Work collaboratively with research department colleagues to ensure a healthy balance of individual subject matter ownership with whole-department information sharing.
Experience & Education:
Minimum 5 years of professional experience with a history of progressive achievement and advancement in a similar role.
2-3 years experience in gaming industry
Bachelor’s degree required – preferably in the fields of political science, public policy or communications
An advanced degree preferred
experience in the commercial casino industry a plus
Experience in trade associations or advocacy a plus
