Position Summary: The Reference Librarian and Law Library Professor provides legal reference services to law students, law faculty and other patrons of the Law Library. The Reference Librarian is committed to a culture of learning, combining strong organizational and supervisory skills with the enthusiasm to initiate and support innovation in the Reference Department through services. The incumbent demonstrates a passion for staff development, commitment to learning from peers and guides the work of providing reference services to Oklahoma City University Law Library users. With the Access Services Librarian, provides the day to day management and training all law library student workers. This librarian delivers research instruction and services to students, faculty, and staff, participates in instruction for upper-division legal research courses, Legal Research Award trainings, and Legal Research and Writing courses. May have other duties as assigned by library administration.

Provides legal and general reference and research assistance to all law library users. Locates, disseminates, and provides training on information to users in both print and electronic format. Participates in rotating reference desk and Sunday reference schedules with other members of the reference department. Assists patrons in the use of electronic databases. Is familiar with a variety of electronic resources and quickly adapts to change in the information environment.
Participates in teaching upper-division legal research courses, Legal Research Award trainings, guest lecturer in the Legal Research and Writing courses, guest lecturer in substantive law courses, and develops and teaches other courses.
Participates in the faculty liaison program and, with the Access Services Librarians, supervises the work of law library student workers conducting faculty research projects.
Provides trainings, presentations and bibliographic guides for student groups and organizations upon request, including the OCU Law Review and Competition teams.
Assists Head of Reference Services with projects and tasks assigned to the reference department.
Compiles LibGuides, library aids, subject bibliographies, pathfinders, department procedures and guides to the library and its resources, both in hard copy and web-based versions.
Participates in implementing the Law Library Marketing schedule and promoting faculty scholarship. Assists in the law library's public relations effort through the library social media accounts and other communication outlets.
Serves on various committees within the law library, law school, and university. Participates in overall planning and implementation of new programs and procedures in the department and law library. Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of Reference Services, Associate Director, or Director.
Participates in the reference department schedule and the reference desk schedule. Provides reference assistance through the library’s “Ask A Librarian” account, email, in librarian’s office, and through roving reference efforts.
Oversees the preparation and completion of long term faculty research projects assigned to the reference department.
Attends seminars, conferences, and participates in local regional and/or national professional associations and activities. Maintains an active interest in the profession of librarianship. Monitors current events, reads professional publications and, as time permits, contributes to scholarly discussions through writing articles, making presentations, and other means.
Participates in the life of the law school and university by attending events and volunteering for projects and committees.
Manages the law library electronic databases, including distributing passwords, maintaining statistics and coordinating trainings with vendors
Participates in the work of the Collection Development Committee in the selection of print and electronic resources. Participates in the collection management of the law library through weeding and policy adherence creation.
Helps maintains the law library website along with other librarians on staff.
Develops the collection and services in support of the law school certificates and clinics.
Other duties as assigned.
Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach high enough to place and remove items from shelves eight feet off the floor.
Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines.
Near vision sufficient to read written communications, computer printouts, CRT display screens, and department forms.
Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus.
Incumbent will be expected to work a variety of office hours and will participate in a rotating Sunday reference schedule. Hours are revised as library schedule and needs change. Some overtime may be required.
Attendance at evening and week-end events may be required. Off campus, state, and regional travel is required.
Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines.

The Oklahoma City University Law Library primarily serves the faculty and students of Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma City University Law School. The Library staff includes 8 full time librarians, support staff, and law student reference assistants.
