The Risk Manager plans, develops, and coordinates a hospital-wide risk management program for Pine Rest's Hospital Based Services division which includes our 220+ bed inpatient psychiatric hospital. The experienced leader in this role implements and supports a risk management program designed to enhance patient and colleague safety and quality of care as well as avoid economic hardship through identification, assessment, prevention, reduction and resolution of risk exposures using risk modification tools. This leader promotes a safe working environment and ensures compliance with applicable regulations, including the Mental Health Code, The Joint Commission and The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare.
Other principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Coordinates and administers systems for risk identification, investigation and risk reduction. Promotes a culture of safety by actively encouraging and supporting reporting of any situation or circumstance that threatens or has the potential to threaten the safety of patients, colleagues, or visitors.
Assists with writing, management and implementation of the annual Risk Management Plan. Measures outcomes and reports results to leadership as well as staff.
Maintains a working knowledge of current best practices to maintain a high reliability, low risk care delivery system for Hospital Based Services. Develops and implements high reliable care delivery systems for patients and families.
Apprises leadership of serious reportable events (SREs), Sentinel Events, significant trends, patterns, and loss exposures.
Assists developing clinical and non-clinical Risk Management policies and procedures. Works toward the resolution of risk management problems through participation on hospital committees.
Identifies, in conjunction with leadership, Significant Reportable Events (SREs). Performs focused reviews, investigations, meets with personnel and develops root cause analysis and action plan to implement changes, if any, collaborating with other teams and departments to respond to and review Significant Reportable Events and potential events.
Maintains appropriate risk management statistics and files. Ensures confidentiality of and controlled access to such information.

The well qualified candidate will have experience in behavioral health as well as a BS in Nursing, MS in Nursing, or Master's in Quality Management or a closely related field. J.D. (Juris Doctor) or strong, demonstrated legal background is strongly preferred. Must have an RN license and at least two (2) years of leadership experience with risk, patient safety operations and/or quality management. Risk Management Certification (Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management /CPHRM) is strongly preferred.
