Penfield Library at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a full time/12 month, two-year appointment, non-renewable Resident Librarian position.
The SUNY Oswego Library Resident Program helps increase the presence of underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in academic librarianship and brings new perspectives and ideas to Penfield Library. The program is aimed at recent graduates from accredited MLS/MLIS degree programs, and we welcome applications from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds as we work to build a representative and culturally diverse faculty and staff.
The Resident Librarian is a two-year, non-renewable position at the assistant librarian rank. The program will provide the Resident with a broad introduction to the field of academic librarianship, with assignments in reference, instruction, and collection development. In the second year, the Resident will complete a project based on their professional interests and our current needs. Working independently or with a colleague, the Resident will develop, complete, and report research with the prospect of presenting at a professional conference or publishing in a professional journal.
The position is an entry-level librarian position, and includes support for professional development and mentorship. The position will prepare Residents to be highly qualified and competitive in their search for a tenure-track position in an academic library.

Establish and maintain communication with classroom faculty to promote library services and resources. Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments, with responsibility for subject specialized collection development and instruction.
With guidance from the Instructional Team, plan, develop, teach, and assess course integrated and stand-alone library instruction sessions for courses and individuals.
Participate in Research Help Desk rotation for on-site and virtual reference, including some evening and weekend shifts.
Display a strong service orientation in interactions with students and faculty/staff colleagues.
Develop and assist with creation of instructional learning objects, including web-based guides and tutorials, using innovative techniques.
Create and maintain online research guides for assigned subject areas, related courses, and relevant topics.
Stay informed of new and changing resources, trends, and methods in instruction, reference, and research assistance.
Collaborate with a variety of internal library colleagues and campus partners.
Participate in various library and institutional committees, as well as in the activities of local and regional professional associations, including workshops and webinars.
Engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
In the second year, work on a project based on professional interests and Penfield Library needs. The goal will be to present results at a professional conference or in a professional journal.
In addition, this position will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in librarianship, scholarship and service; commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Master’s degree in Librarianship/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, preferably received within the last 12 months. Note: early-career librarians working outside of academic librarianship (for up to 24 months post-MLIS) will also be considered.
