University of Maryland Baltimore is currently seeking a Clinical Research Specialist for Department of Neurology, Center for Neuromuscular Disease. The selected candidate functionas a single specialist in a clinical setting and is responsible for providingthe highest technical expertise to research programs, studies and/or projectsand overseeing clinical research activities. Experience with Neuromusculardisease research is necessary. Thiscandidate will perform behavioral, biochemical and cellular biologicalanalyses. Selected candidate will assist in grant writing and preparation ofpapers and articles.
**This is a REGULAR, PART-TIME (20 hours a week) position**
Recruit and screen subjects forresearch studies.
Perform and direct studies and/orproject(s). Develop, recommend, modify and implement policies and proceduresand/or methods for clinical research. Develop protocol manuals and datacollection instruments.
Perform clinical researchactivities including data collection, data entry, data verification, dataanalysis, compliance and clinical relevance of data. Conduct library researchand contributes to the preparation and writing of research findings forpublication of journal articles and grant proposals.
Performadministrative duties such as providing training and guidance to students andother clinical staff. Participate in the design of research studies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in epidemiology,sociology, psychology, nursing or field of study related to the research of theclinic.
Experience: Three (3) years experience inclinical research including two (2) years in the relevant researchspecialization.
Consideration may be given for aunique combination of education and experience.*
Mayrequire training related to occupational safety and health, environmentalcompliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation.
*Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with at least 18 credits in a fieldrelated to the research of the clinic, or Bachelor's degree in unrelated fieldwith at least one year of experience in a field directly related to theresearch of the clinic. Except for qualifications established by law,additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained theknowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work ofthe job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement ona year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year ofexperience.

Possesses aknowledge of data manipulation and analysis and clinical research proceduresand able to perform position in compliance with all requirements, regulations,and laws. Ability to understand andutilized scientific/medical terminology and research theory. Ability to gain knowledge and meet thereporting needs of UMB policies and practices for Institutional Review, HumanProtections, Animal Protections, etc. Abilityto maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awarenesswith trends and influences. Assumespersonal responsibility for all outcomes; makes effective and timely decisions;and learns how to effectively use technology. Maintains productivity and uses strategies to increase knowledge base.Skill in continuously seeking to improve the quality of services andprocesses.
Ability toeffectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, andfacts. Writes and presents informationin a clear and concise way. Interpretsand understands written information and is able to listen attentively to verbaland non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding. Skills in ethically communicating risks andbenefits an ability to maintain confidentiality.
