This faculty position will provide teaching and mentoring to undergraduate dental students in patient care and in preparation for private practice . Primary teaching responsibilities will be centered around clinical laboratory teaching ,practice management and operations.
Responsibilities of this position:
Teaching: Responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching of pre-doctoral students, in Fixed, Removable, and Implant Prosthodontics. To include leadership as a Course Director, teaching and mentoring undergraduate dental students in preparation for private practice, service, and scholarship. All faculty members are expected to teach in an integrated curriculum system. Teaching across traditional departmental lines and in multidisciplinary teams is required. Faculty members are expected to foster transformative learning that is informed by interdisciplinary and translational research, scholarship, and creative expression.
Research: Faculty member may participate in research protocols and will work collaboratively with dental research programs and investigators. For appointment at the rank of assistant professor, the candidate will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department.
Clinical: Will provide teaching and leadership role in dentistry clinics, seeing patients, working with students, and working collaboratively with other faculty and staff to promote best business practices, and increase clinic productivity. Participation in the Faculty Private Practice; requires demonstrated ability to build a practice.
Service: The faculty member will be expected to serve the Department of Prosthodontics, the School of Dentistry, and Virginia Commonwealth University by serving on committees and task forces as requested. In addition, participation in dentistry-related community service activities is strongly encouraged.
DDS or DMD Degree
Eligible for a license in Virginia
Ability to teach practice management through clinical and didactic experiences to pre-doctoral students.
Must have the desire to mentor future dental practitioners.
Demonstrate the ability to adapt to change and embrace modern technology
Demonstrate experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability, or acquire and develop such ability, to incorporate adult learning theory, evidence-based oral health care, innovation in student learning, and critical thinking. Tenure Eligible: The candidate will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department(s). The candidate will be required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications.
