The Research Project Coordinator manages daily operations of a biomedical &/or social-behavioral research study involving multidisciplinary teams of colleagues, sponsors & other external project stakeholders. This role monitors study performance, analyzes & review results, & supervises development & implementation of new protocols. This position assigns work & supervises study staff & reviews technical operations ensuring that all processes, protocols & procedures are quality controlled & functioning up to standards. The Research Project Coordinator develops implements & administers budgets, grant & administrative procedures. This role may co-author scientific papers for presentation & publication & coordinates writing, submission & administration of grants. This position ensures that all study activities are completed by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), & the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).
In particular, this person manages research laboratory samples and multiple protocols for a hospital-based biobank.Fulfills customer orders, maintains records of customer requests, and provides technical support to biobank director regarding customer requests. Maintains and operates all laboratory equipment associated with biobank, including scheduling regular maintenance, managing service contracts for laboratory equipment, troubleshooting issues with equipment, developing/updating SOPs and ordering all associated supplies.Interacts with other laboratories and investigators on and off campus regarding DNA extraction and sample analysis. Conducts and recommends sample quality control experiments.Assists the director in decisions regarding new equipment and alternative procedures for sample analysis and QC. Investigates new procedures as needed.May assist with regulatory documentation associated with samples, reviewing customer protocols for necessary procedures and documentation and data and sample audits as needed. May also assist with patient/participant contact for additional samples or support of customer requests. May work directly with investigators to develop study protocols. May complete mathematical calculations, and/or computer tasks and/or assist in judging validity of data.Is proficient in basic laboratory techniques for DNA extraction and aliquotting samples.Follows appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices.
Leads execution & control of a biomedical &/or social science project or research study.
This includes over 10,000 samples in a biobank and protocols for investigators accessing the biobank.
Coordinates processing & analysis of samples and related data, conduct of experimental tests & procedures
Develops new &/or revised research methodologies.
Ensures completion of study activities per protocol including recruitment.
Obtains informed consent.
Registers participant samples with appropriate sponsor study protocol.
Collects data from medical records.
Using an expert level of skill, is able to conduct, troubleshoot, and oversee DNA extraction and DNA quality QC procedures.
Tracks samples and associated data in NUgene database
Oversees & manages collection, maintenance, analysis & evaluation of data related to sample collection that will be used in grant submissions, presentations & publications.
Ensures that information is entered correctly into databases.
Assists PI in reviewing, analyzing, interpreting, summarizing, formatting, editing, & preparing tables, charts, graphs, progress & final reports, etc.
Coordinates between sponsoring agencies, collaborating organizations &/or other research &/or educational institutions.
Ensures that all study documents associated with current local, state, & federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws & research protocols are completed in a timely manner.
Creates and maintain lab manuals regarding operating, safety, and other procedures
Works directly with investigators to set up projects using NUgene samples
Works with NUgene director to support collection of samples for NUgene biobank and related studies
Manages lab/study budget & inventory including purchasing of supplies & services ensuring that they are necessary, reasonable & project related.
Orders & maintains inventory of study supplies ensuring that supplies are ready and available when necessary.
Oversees repair and maintenance of all lab equipment.
Distributes intra-departmental charges.
Negotiates with vendors, obtain quotes & arrange for demos of large equipment.
Trains, directs, assigns duties to & supervises research staff, students, residents &/or fellows.
Acts as a mentor in regard to education of junior coordinators.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 3 years' research study or other relevant experience required; OR
Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 1 year research study or other relevant experience.
Project management experience required.
Must complete Northwestern's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years
