A core component of this work is creating, collaborating, and partnering with faculty members and department heads within the university's academic colleges to advance faculty (across all ranks) diversity, including recruitment and retention The position also identifies opportunities for outreach to national organizations, partner universities, and disciplinary associations as part of a proactive approach to identifying prospective applicants that promote a diverse faculty at Virginia Tech. Develops and maintains tools to assist with the faculty search process. Assists with implementation and assessment of a faculty recruitment plan. Delivers and monitors faculty search training. Maintains up-to-date knowledge relevant to position responsibilities. Participates in outreach activities, to include conferences and visits to partner universities. Supports efforts related to HBCUs, HSI, MSI, and Native-serving institutions. Uses data to inform decision-making. Establishes and maintains extensive networks of university partners. Availability to work outside regularly published business hours. Perform other duties, as assigned.
Master's degree; experience identifying and/or recruiting underrepresented populations; demonstrated commitment to diversity; experience working with diverse communities; deep academic and intellectual curiosity across multiple disciplines; experience working in a higher education environment or an agency that partners with higher education institutions; ability to multi-task and successfully complete assignments while working under tight deadlines and stressful conditions; candidate must possess strong communication, administrative, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.
Bachelor's degree in STEM related field or experience working in STEM-related areas; Doctorate or professional degree.
