: We are seeking an R&D, Aeronautical Engineer in The Aerospace Systems Analysis Department\. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Build flight simulations and characterize a flight system's performance;+ Optimize trajectories and maneuvers to meet mission objectives;+ Identifying design characteristics for design improvements;+ Develop algorithms for rapid mission planning and on\-board trajectory optimization;+ Identifying design characteristics for design improvements;+ Develop and implement hybrid/multi fidelity models, including uncertainty models, for use in simulation and Guidance, Navigation and Control Analyses;+ Develop and use multi\-disciplinary design optimization methods and tools;+ Learn and understand legacy Sandia codes and tools;+ Work in a team environment to support the early phases of product development including concept development, flight system design, performance and risk assessments;+ Conduct flight safety analyses and day\-of\-launch simulation support;+ This position requires the ability to travel to customer and field sites \(e\.g\. Hawaii and Alaska\)\. This is a virtual worker position and the successful candidate must be set up to work in this capacity\. Required: + Bachelor's and Master's Degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or relevant field plus 8 years of relevant experience; or Ph\.D\. in a relevant field plus 4 years of relevant experience;+ Experience with the aerodynamic design of missiles, boosters, aircraft, projectiles or reentry vehicles;+ Extensive experience building flight simulations;+ Expertise in flight mechanics including atmospheric boost, \(re\)entry and descent;+ Expertise in rapid trajectory optimization of high speed flight systems;+ Expertise in rapid, high\-fidelity multidisciplinary optimization methods for concurrent design of hypersonic vehicles and missions;+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance\. Desired: + Ph\.D\. degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or physics, or similar field of study;+ Systems engineering methods and best practices;+ Experience with Orbital Mechanics as well as atmospheric Boost, Entry, Descent, and Landing;+ Experience building, testing and using high fidelity 3DOF and 6DOF Flight Simulations including modeling, simulation and analysis of a variety of flight systems;+ Familiarity with control actuation systems \(CAS\) for aerospace vehicles including, fins/canards, TVC, ACS, CMGs, torque rods, etc\.;+ Familiarity with guidance law development and flight control systems;+ Experience with trajectory optimization and simulation tools and principles \(e\.g\. TAOS, OTIS, POST2, STK or GMAT\);+ Experience with optimization software \(e\.g\. GPOPS\-II, DIDO, Dakota, SNOPT, or DOT\) applicable to trajectory optimization;+ Experience with Multi\-Disciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization \(MDAO\) methods and frameworks \(e\.g\. OpenMDAO, ModelCenter\);+ Proficiency in numerical computing environments such as Mathematica, the Python Canopy, or MATLAB\\Simulink with expertise in capturing, processing, analyzing, searching, visualization and curating large datasets;+ Experience with plotting and data visualization using MATLAB, matplotlib, or Tecplot;+ Experience with 3D simulator visualization and plotting tools \(e\.g\. SIMDIS, X\-Plane visualization, or STK visualization\);+ The ability to technically engage with subject matter experts regarding aeroelastic and aerothermodynamic analyses;+ Experience with distributed and centralized version control systems \(e\.g\., Git and Subversion\);+ Ability to complete assignments with little or no supervision;+ Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment;+ Active DOE/DOD clearance\.
