We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Data Analyst.
This position will execute ongoing analysis of research initiatives related to health policy, health choice/behavior, health economics, and population health at the NYU School of Medicine, Department of Population Health. The candidate will work in the Departments Section on Health Choice, Policy and Evaluation (HCPE), a dynamic and active research group dedicated to determining the influence of public policy on health and health choices and advancing ways to make policies more effective. Using multidisciplinary approaches, particularly behavioral economics, the group focuses on low-income, racial and ethnic minority populations and pressing public health problems, with a significant focus on obesity. A strong area of interest for the group is growing our capacity to use machine learning techniques to solve health problems. The data analyst will process data from conceptualization through presentation under the supervision of Section Director Brian Elbel, PhD, MPH, and will be responsible for high-level management of all datasets. The candidate will support a dynamic group of faculty to make informed policy recommendations and develop novel health policy solutions, often around the food environment, eating and food purchasing behaviors. Section members have rich backgrounds in public health, health economics, and social epidemiology. The programmer/analyst is a critical link between individuals' behaviors and the capacity to improve health at the population level.
Assist in writing and editing manuscripts for publication.
Conduct relevant literature reviews to inform cohort selection, variable definitions, and analytic methods
Participate in data-driven decision making with investigators
Clearly communicate processes used and results achieved, suggest new and alternative approaches
Develop programs, methodologies, and files for analyzing and presenting data
Accurately and appropriately interpret and communicate results
Detect and address issues in data and analytic results
Perform statistical analyses according to the study design (e.g., cross-sectional, time series, difference-in-difference, machine learning)
Develop, manage, and improve databases to track provenance and versioning
Import and clean raw datasets, evaluate data quality, and create analytic datasets
Monitor, evaluate and improve the quality of data; prepare reports, charts and tables of data for faculty and staff
Cultivate deep familiarity with methodological approaches and data from diverse sources including big data platforms, large administrative databases, small-scale survey data, electronic health trackers, GPS units and others
To qualify you must have a Bachelors Degree and 2 years relevant work experience in biostatistics, public health, economics, statistics or related field
Strong statistical computing skills in SAS,Stata, and/or R. Familiarity with other statistical packages a plus.
Database management experience using postGreSQL or Oracle.
Data visualization skills (e.g. RShiny, Tableau).
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
Keen attention to detail and good documentation habits.
Self-directed and able to manage priorities on multiple projects simultaneously.
Must work and communicate effectively with partners.
Strong time-management and prioritization skills.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Previous experience publishing for peer-review.
