PhD RESEARCH ASSISTANT/POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW/RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

The Translational Neuroimaging and Systems Neuroscience Lab (TNSNL) is seeking qualified and highly motivated individuals to fill multiple positions including PhD Research Assistant, Postdoctoral Fellow and/or Research Associate to conduct small animal neuroimaging studies. The research in our lab encompass developing cutting-edge neuroimaging technology by combining fMRI, electrophysiology, behavioral and optogenetic approaches, as we as using these techniques to characterize animal models of mental disorders.
The position will be in the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department and affiliated with the Penn State Institute of Neurosciences, as well as the Center for neural engineering. The Penn State BME department, Institute of Neurosciences of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences (http://www.huck.psu.edu) provide a rich environment in which faculty, research associates and graduate/undergraduate students regularly interact and conduct collaborative studies. Affiliated faculty and students have access to the Institutes’ state-of-the-art core facilities. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States.

Postdoc/Research Associate applicants must have a PhD and/or MD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Biology, Physics or a related discipline. Candidates with expertise in in vivo electrophysiology, small animal fMRI, behavioral tests, stereotaxic surgery and/or neuroimaging data analysis are preferred. Candidates with expertise in calcium-based fiber photometry or miniscope imaging are strong encouraged to apply. Successful candidates must demonstrate strong motivation, critical scientific thinking and creativity, design and conduct experiments, perform data analysis, assist with student training, and prepare manuscripts for publication. The appointment is funded for one year from the date of hire with the possibility of reappointment contingent on performance.
