POSITION DETAILSJohn Jay College of Criminal Justice seeks a seasoned academic administrator with highly developed analytical skills and with a deep knowledge of the opportunities and challenges confronting public higher educational institutions today. The Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness provides leadership for planning, assessment and accreditation activities in the pursuit of academic excellence, student success, and administrative effectiveness. The Associate Provost promotes a college-wide culture of evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement by routinely analyzing, distributing and presenting institutional data and relevant research that identifies best practices in higher education for all units of the college.Working closely with the Provost, the Academic Deans, the Vice President of Student Affairs, and the Vice President of Enrollment Management, the Associate Provost monitors and examines retention and graduation rates and works on their on-going improvement. She/he inspires the faculty, Academic Deans and Vice Presidents to focus on the achievement of student learning outcomes. He/she assists departments and academic support units in refining student learning outcomes and appropriate assessment plans for these outcomes. She/he partners with the Provost in leading the college's strategic planning process and Middle States re-accreditation reviews. He/she ensures the implementation of the college's Integrated Strategic Plan and works closely with the Vice Presidents, Deans, and Directors responsible for developing and carrying out the plan.The Associate Provost reports directly to the Provost/Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, and has direct supervision of the Director of Institutional Research and the Director of Assessment. She/he is a member of the President's executive team and the Provost's senior staff. The Associate Provost acts on behalf of the Provost when required, writes reports and policy statements, and performs other management and supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Provost. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.OTHER QUALIFICATIONSPossession of an earned doctorate (or equivalent) and a minimum of eight years of leadership experience in academic administration is strongly preferred. Experience as a faculty member is also preferred. A minimum of two years as an academic department chair or its equivalent is preferred, as is an academic record consistent with appointment as a tenured faculty member in an academic unit of the college.The college seeks a leader who thrives in a multi-cultural setting and is committed to both access and excellence in higher education.
