Job Posting: Coordinates all daily functions for the research laboratory inclusive of, but not limited to, clinical trial protocol interpretation for laboratory specimen collection and processing, accessioning, and packaging to ensure quality patient care. Operating clinical lab instruments utilized for processing, performing required daily preventive maintenance and quality control. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Such duties include but are not limited to: 1. Per each specific research protocol, performs accurate assembly of tubes for blood collection, demonstrating a high degree of proficiency and understanding of laboratory blood collection procedures and demonstrates competency to facilitate quality patient care and diagnosis. 2. Participate in solution of technical problems requiring great degree of independent judgment. 3. Ensures compliance with the State of California and Federal licensing/accrediting standards (CLIA), including but not limited to safety, CPR, infection control, quality management, environmental, confidentiality, and patient care. 4. Oversee all aspects of research laboratory a. Laboratory kits: a. Prepare, process, and send laboratory kits for all research patients b. Inventory all laboratory kits c. Order laboratory kits as needed d. Discard expired laboratory kits b. Review all laboratory manuals provided by the clinical trial sponsor c. Address laboratory queries as needed d. Be a resource and contact for Sponsors and other laboratory facilities that pertain to the clinical trial. e. Obtain all laboratory documents (i.e., COLA, CLIA, licenses) for all clinical trials f. Obtain all required specimens from outside laboratories as outlined in the protocol g. Maintain a complete inventory of all specimens: a. that are collected and stored at The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute and to be shipped to other facilities b. that are obtained and returned to other facilities 5. Other duties as assigned Objectives: Identifies other learning needs and demonstrates measures to meet these. 2. Demonstrates applied knowledge when caring for selected patient populations including care appropriate to the age of patients served. 3. Demonstrates competency in selected skills including, but not limited to: a. Research protocol interpretation. b. Completing Daily department QC and Preventive Maintenance. c. Preparing specimen kits for blood collection per research protocol. d. Maintaining records of reports and department statistics. 4. Maintains efficient flow of work throughout the practice by evaluating procedures and volume of work required at various periods of time throughout the day. 5. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice in regards to: a. Attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality. b. Positive public relation image and working relationships. c. Obtaining necessary knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence. d. Completing all mandatory requirements, including infection control and safety seminars or manual reviews. 6. Responsible for inventory of supplies and equipment, restocking of supplies and reagents. 7. Maintain appropriate records of laboratory activities such as purchase order forms for lab supplies, quality control activities quality assurance and maintenance records. 8. Participate in educational workshops, meetings, and seminars. 9. Review and adhere to department policies or procedures to maintain proficiency in operating guidelines. 10. Demonstrate willingness to assist co-workers in completion of daily tasks or special projects to support the department's efficiency. 11. Seek guidance and direction, as necessary, for the successful completion of job duties; ask appropriate questions when in doubt. 12. Maintain appropriate records/notification of time worked, vacations, seminars, overtime, and professional commitments related to this position.
Minimum requirement: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience in clinical trial protocol interpretation for laboratory needs.
One to three years of clinical lab bench experience in processing and performing testing on patient samples.
Have knowledge of specimen processing and handling specimen send outs. SPECIAL SKILLS:
Ability to deal effectively with many people, excellent human relations and oral communication skills.
Must be able to prioritize, organize and coordinate care.
Must have a quality service attitude and put in extra hours to meet patient/clinic needs.
Proficiency in phlebotomy skills a plus.
Able to work carefully and efficiently under stressful situations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS 1. Exposed to noise, electrical, chemical and sharps hazards. 2. Moderate sitting/walking/standing. 3. High volume of patient interaction and prolonged viewing of computer screens. 4. Requires good physical and emotional health. 5. Lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs. and 200 lbs. with assistance. 6. Continuous hand/finger movements.
