Undergraduate students choose to concentrate their studies in one of five schools with more than 539 course offerings and 36 academic programs. The Ramapo Explorers-Theater temporary instructors report to the Assistant Vice President for the Center for Innovative and Professional Learning (CIPL) and work in tandem with the theater camp coordinator(s). Duties include curriculum development and implementation for an enriching hands-on Theater Arts program encompassing topics such as Acting I & II, Acting for Film & TV, Improv, Lighting/Sound Design, Costume Design, Voice & Movement, Make-up Design, and Set Design. The specific 3-hour time slot(s) within a weekly class schedule is developed by the theater camp coordinator in collaboration with CIPL and instructor availability. Instructors may be asked to participate in Information Sessions to support recruitment of students for the camp that are scheduled during the spring term. (Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment with no fee paid to the instructor). Instructors maintain communication with the theater camp coordinator as requested during the scheduled courses.
Develops challenging and hands-on Theater Arts curriculum and related activity for students entering 7th-12th grades to enhance skills in specific Theater Arts topic areas
Provides written daily lessons/curriculum/program description(s) and biography as per requested deadlines
Implements/presents approved Theater Arts topic curriculum within specified schedule
Participates in scheduled one-hour Information Sessions to support recruitment of students for the camp upon request
Other duties as arise
A Bachelor's degree and teacher certification. One year of related teaching experience may substitute for lack of teacher certification.
Teaching and/or work experience related to the Theater Arts topic to be taught. Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKIILS AND ABILITIES:
Requires excellent one-on-one and group presentation and facilitation skills that exhibit excellent verbal/written communication skills, ethical and sound professional judgment, and a commitment to quality instruction that is sensitive to the needs of individual and diverse students. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate effectively and efficiently in English.
