The Director of Soccer Operations/Assistant Director of coaching will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of soccer operations for the NRU. This position will serve as a central resource for all NRU members, club affiliations, partner vendors and local community groups. The Director of Soccer Operations will work to ensure that NRU programs operate at a highly effective level and provides a positive club experience to all members.
Coordinate field, practice and game schedules for all programs. Partner with local governments to ensure that NRU has access to the needed field space and that fields are maintained on an ongoing basis. Coordinate with the VP of Operations for field maintenance and seasonal set up and take down of field equipment.
At the Direction of the Executive Director, serve as the primary point of contact with all NRU affiliated leagues for cancellations and schedules ensuring that accurate and timely communications are delivered to the appropriate NRU members.
Ensure that all field agreements are coordinated with the Executive Director and presented to the Board of Directors.
Oversee the management of the NRU Recreational Program by distributing all necessary communications to Age Group Coordinators, Coaches and Parents. Complete the distribution of equipment and uniforms. Promote the league through creative advertising designed to promote growth of recreational player participation.
Contact the referee assignor to ensure that all matches for NRU Travel, Academy and Tournament teams are scheduled.
Provide weekly updates of soccer operations status to the Executive Director.
Serve as a resource to all NRU players, parents, managers and coaches by providing timely and friendly communications on activities such as field conditions, equipment ordering and general member service requests.
Maintain and advance working relationships with community groups, neighboring soccer clubs and regulatory bodies.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 40%
Supports NRU office staff by covering office hours as requested by the Executive Director.
Assists with ordering of NRU field, coaching and office equipment and oversees the distribution of equipment.
Assist the Executive Director and the Tournament Committee with the planning and execution of the Club’s primary tournament (i.e. NRU Summer Kick Off).
Assist the Executive Director with additional tournaments, showcases and Club programs.
Coaches 2 travel teams in the fall, along with 2 teams in the spring.
Assist Director of Coaching with development of coaches as well as working with specific teams as necessary.
Ability to work independently on assignments and projects and performs a diverse array of responsibilities and duties normally required by the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of five years of experience supporting soccer programs.
The amount of work required varies throughout the year based on season. A rough estimate is 30-35 hours weekly, dropping to 15-25 in November and July, with a peak for tryouts in May-June of 45-50 hours per week.
A minimum of three (3) years soccer coaching experience, or three (3) experience working within a soccer Club environment.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and demonstrated ability with other MS Office applications.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels in a club/business environment.
Ability to work with minimal supervision, effectively set priorities and meet deadlines. Can handle multiple projects while maintaining high quality, accurate work.
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Proven analytical and problem solving skills.
Proficiency with HTML design tools and website administration is preferred.
Additional Salary Information: Salary is commensurate with experience. Other opportunities to make additional money within the club based on bonuses/camps.
Established in 1983, New River United is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing soccer opportunities for all ages and ability levels in the New River Valley of Virginia from recreational to elite. The club is run by a staff of four, a Board of Directors, coaches and the many volunteers who contribute time and other resources. Currently the largest nonprofit organization in the area, NRU... supports the activity of over 2000 members, including players from the U5 age group all the way through the adult league. Youth players can participate across a range of competition levels, and now, with the addition of winter futsal and the SWVA Elite training program, they can play year round. In May, NRU hosts its annual Summer Kick-Off Tournament, which is held on the beautiful Virginia Tech campus. With strong community support and successful programs, both the tournament and the club continue to grow each year. New River United has strong ties to both Radford and Virginia Tech soccer programs (both mens and women).
