The School of Performing Arts | Music | Theatre | Cinema at Virginia Tech, which brings together the talents of faculty and students in the long established departments of music (BA), theatre (BA and MFA), and a growing new program in cinema, seeks to fill the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Bands for the 2017-18 academic year. The primary responsibilities will be to assist in the creative and administrative tasks associated with the university marching band, The Marching Virginians, direct the men's basketball pep band, and conduct the fall Symphony Band and spring Campus Band. Additional teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate's qualifications, area of specialization, and department needs, for a total of four units each semester. The person filling this position will be a visible student recruiter for the music department and support the bands and other instrumental ensembles.
MUSICPROGRAM: The music program has an enrollment of more than one hundred music majors and a faculty and staff of thirty. Students and faculty present over one hundred concerts and events each academic year. In addition to students in the music major, the music program offers instruction to students representing every college and school at Virginia Tech.
An advanced degree in music together with demonstrated success in instrumental conducting and teaching at the college level
Demonstrated record of success with a Division I marching band is preferred.
