This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, Benefits and Workers’ Compensation, the Benefits Analyst facilitates support for all benefit programs to our employees. This encompasses areas such as medical, dental, and vision insurance benefits, multiple retirement programs, tax deferred investment options, flexible spending accounts, disability and leave of absence programs, voluntary insurance and benefit options, and tuition fee waiver programs. Other duties include maintaining confidentiality of all employee data documentation and ensuring compliance with regulations such as HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA and directives of other regulatory agencies. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining excellent working relationships with the Human Resources staff, appropriate staff of the Chancellor’s Office, CalPERS, the State Controller’s Office, and vendors to ensure accurate interpretation of benefit program directives and guidelines and resolve complex benefit issues/problems.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,695 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,288 - $5,695 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
One year of human resources experience.
One year of experience with general health and welfare benefits.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
Demonstrated experience using HRIS systems.
Demonstrated experience using PeopleSoft and/or SCO’s Payroll/Personnel Information Management System.
Comprehensive understanding of federal and state benefit regulations (i.e., HIPAA, ACA, COBRA).
One year of experience with defined benefit retirement plans.
One year of experience with federal and state job-protected leave of absences (i.e., FMLA, CFRA, PDL).
One year of experience with disability management programs (i.e., accommodations, transitional work, integrated health management).
