UDAR builds Berkeley?s excellence and character by strengthening relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of the University, raising public awareness about Berkeley, and increasing private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus?s philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen unit development offices by partnering with campus fundraisers. It handles a range of central activities and services, encompassing events, communications, stewardship, prospect development, gift management, database management, and more.
The Principal Gifts group works with alumni and friends who have the passion, dedication, and capacity to make a transformational impact at Berkeley through involvement and philanthropy. We assist the Chancellor and other campus leaders in engaging these individuals as partners, according to their interests and expertise, with the University?s mission and priorities: ?Connect key alumni and friends integrally with the campus as advisors and lead volunteers who help sustain Berkeley?s core values, build on our strengths, and advance our high-priority initiatives; ?Provide leadership on the campus for effectively engaging ambitious philanthropy that touches multiple parts of the University and has long-term, far-reaching effects; ?Ensure that our most generous individual donors have a satisfying experience, including thoughtful, coordinated, and appreciative engagement by the campus and opportunities to connect directly with the positive impact of their philanthropy; ?Help build relationships with key partners who can serve as powerful advocates for Berkeley, bringing the story of our unique and critical contributions to society ? as well as our opportunities and priorities for the future ? to a range of external constituents.
The Development Analyst provides key analytic and writing support to the Principal Gifts fundraising lead team members. This position will have a special focus on a new campus Division for Data Sciences, as well as other new and pending campus priorities and Initiatives. Working in close collaboration with, and under the direction of, a Senior Principal Gifts Director, the Development Analyst will be a key partner in the strategic development and implementation of campus-wide fundraising initiatives. The Development Analyst will take on a wide variety of tasks essential to achieving critical program goals, including, but not limited to, collaborating with various partners in schools and units across the university; working with Berkeley?s donor database and other internal systems/software to help track and advance campus coordination and strategies for top prospective donors in an informed and coordinated way; working with Prospect Research teams and other UDAR/school/unit partners in developing and enhancing prospect pools; and providing essential reporting and analysis.
The Development Analyst will draft a range of materials that advance cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of Principal Gifts? top donors, such as correspondence, briefings, proposals, and reports. The candidate will need to understand and communicate a range of complex and confidential content. As needed, the Development Analyst will also help to plan and execute a broad range of cultivation and stewardship events and activities to highlight Berkeley?s excellence.
This work will require active, thorough research, and rapid acquisition of knowledge about the Principal Gifts portfolio, campus programs and prospects, systems, as well as the ability to adopt a donor-centric perspective. The Development Analyst will need to provide critical thinking and problem-solving skills to best advance organizational, strategic, and fundraising priorities across a diverse range of units and programs. The Development Analyst will act as liaison among the staff of the Principal Gifts team, UDAR/School/Unit team members, University Officers, Deans, faculty and other members of the campus community and donors.
Strategic Planning and Analysis (30%)
?Manage school, unit and UDAR cross-team collaboration/partnerships via coordination of meetings and presentations, development of strategic documents and communication pieces, and other tools that guide senior level collaborations. Manages active lists of Principal Gift and Division of Data Science prospect pools. ?Develops tools for collecting, analyzing and modeling data/information related to Principal Gifts, with some specific focus on the Division of Data Sciences, including fundraising progress in close collaboration with the Advancement Information Management unit in UDAR and campus colleagues. Provide analysis of fundraising results and activities, and make recommendations to Principal Gifts fundraising leads for program changes and/or development of new program as required ?Create and manage databases ?Plan and execute donor and alumni events that highlight donor interest areas. Develops invitation lists, plan programming in consultation with Principal Gifts fundraising leads, and campus colleagues, manages prospect follow-up. ?Maintain awareness of national philanthropic trends, particularly in relative Data Science programs.
?Draft a range of strategic documents important to advancing campus relationships with Principal Gifts level donors and prospects, including correspondence, acknowledgement letters, briefings for donor visits/meetings, and stewardship reports. ?Assist in the coordination of donor/prospect strategies though coordinated campus strategic approaches to donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. ?Researches, analyzes, and synthesizes knowledge on Principal Gifts/Data Science priorities.
Prospect Pool Research and Tracking (40%)
?Work in partnership with Prospect Development colleagues to create and actively maintain Principal Gifts/Division of Data Science prospect pools. Conduct comprehensive research, including financial and biographical, to identify, qualify, and prioritize prospective donor pools. ?Develop reports, providing comprehensive analysis of Principal/Major gift donor trends and interests, giving histories, and capacity. Ensure accuracy of information. ?Use the campus donor database to track engagement/correspondence/communication/strategies to advance cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies. Ensure accurate and up-to-date information on Principal Gifts/Division of Data Sciences donor/relationships. ?Perform prospect screening in conjunction with Prospect Research ?Track donor and prospect in press/social media/public eye, e.g., via Google alerts.?Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. ?Strong knowledge of and experience with conducting research and analysis through databases and online information systems. ?Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other relevant software applications. ?Strong research and writing skills, including the ability to make complex information clear and accessible for multiple audiences; an aptitude for logical and readable organization; and proficiency with grammar, syntax, style and punctuation. ?Strong project management and organizational skills. ?Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and active listening, an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all organizational levels within the team, UDAR/School/Unit team members, University Officers, Deans, faculty and other members of the campus community and donors. ?Strong acumen in regard to handling confidential and sensitive information. ?Working knowledge of and/or interest in fundraising and donor relations concepts, principles, and practices.
