Title Position Reports To: Director of Health Services JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Health Services and is responsible for providing medical care to the student body and assisting the Director with administrative duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES: Administrative Represent the department on and off campus and act as the Director in his/her absence. Be on-call to address emergency situations as scheduled. Collaborate with the Director of Health Services collaborating physician and nursing staff in the development review and revision of policy practice guidelines and protocols to be followed by the nurses in the treatment of patients. Collaborate with the medical staff to plan mutually agreed upon procedures and guidelines for the care of students. Assist Director with implementation of Quality Assurance Program and monitoring. Provide assistance with direct supervision of nursing and clerical staff provide reviews and counseling as necessary. Assist in development and creation of programs in student health for the campus community. Assist in oversight of initial and ongoing maintenance of accreditation through AAAHC. Participate on University committees as directed. Assist with the arrangement of programs for personnel regarding current issues in health care and outreach educational programs for students. Participate in college health and health education organizations on a local state and national level to represent Health Services and the University in matters of health care. Collaborate with the medical and nursing staff in regard to assessment of staff functions nursing care charting quality assurance and utilization review. Participate in department division and University assessment efforts. Other duties as assigned. Clinical Be responsible for the provision of high quality health care services. Provide accessible and available health service. Provide education of and effective communication with those served concerning the diagnosis and treatment of their medical conditions appropriate preventive measures and use of the health care system. Provide treatment that is consistent with the clinical impressions of the working diagnosis. Provide continuity of care. Provide appropriate accurate and complete medical entries. Provide adequate and appropriate transfer of information when clients are transferred to another health care provider. Assess real or potential health hazards and current health status including analysis of health behavior related to lifestyle and culture. Devise implement and evaluate plans of care utilizing sound clinical judgment based on assessments of the physical psychological emotional societal and environmental needs of the clients. Prescribe dispense and administer medical therapeutics corrective measures and controlled substances in schedule II III IV or V. Experience with EHR systems and electronic prescribing. Assist individuals to assume responsibility for the restoration of health and the prevention of illness. Consult refer and collaborate with other disciplines involved in the delivery of total patient care. Utilize the resources of the University community and the surrounding community area. Promote collegial relationships with other clinical staff and providers in the community. Serve as a resource person. Serve as a role model for students. Outreach and Education Demonstrate evidence of clinical professional growth by involvement in continuing education. Attend and/or participate in University meetings and in-service offerings. Demonstrate awareness of legislative issues relating to nursing practice and health care. Maintain active membership in national and regional professional health organizations. Serve as an advocate for student health on campus. Facilitate professional education and development opportunities for nursing staff. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Must be able to respond to medical emergencies throughout campus. Must be able to climb stairs (4 stories) and carry emergency medical equipment to emergency sites. Must be able to lift and bend to attend to needs of patients.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE/AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of a baccalaureate degree BSN program from an accredited school of nursing. M.S. degree in Advanced Practice Nursing from an accredited university. A minimum of 3 years as Registered Professional Nurse prior to NP certification. Experience in office based or ambulatory care practice. Experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse preferred. Current New York State license as an RN and NP. National certification as a FNP or ANP from AANP or ANCC. Prescriptive privileges for scheduled and non-scheduled medications. Malpractice Insurance with limits of 1 000 000/3 000 000 Administrative experience including supervision. CPR/AED certification/Infection Control certification Excellent communication skills. Proficiency in computer skills such as Excel Word and database systems.
