The University of Maryland Schoolof Social Work (UM SSW) is one of the largest schools of social work in thecountry, is situated on an urban health and human services campus and ranksamong the top 20 schools of social work in scholarly productivity andreputation. Our school and campus aredeeply involved in inter-professional education and interdisciplinary research.Placed on the graduate health and human services campus in Baltimore, the SSWis well integrated with our sister schools (Medicine, Nursing, Law, Pharmacy,and Dentistry) as well as the University of Maryland Medical System. Celebrating over 20 years ofinnovative social work practice in the Baltimore area, the Social WorkCommunity Outreach Service (SWCOS) was launched within the UM SSW in 1992. SWCOS'mission is to create and implement innovative models of social work educationand service that strengthen individuals, families, organizations, andcommunities in Baltimore and Maryland. This is accomplished through strategiccollaborations between agency, staff, faculty, students and communityrepresentatives. SWCOS provides graduate level social work students withhands-on experience with critical social issues in an encouraging and creativeatmosphere that prepares them to be leaders. In addition, SWCOS provides thosein need with quality services and creates research opportunities to generatenew knowledge in social work practice.
The UM SSW is committed to a raciallyand culturally diverse faculty and student body. The School provides anintellectually exciting, collegial, and supportive faculty environment thatfosters interdisciplinary research and inter-professional teaching.
