Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Admissions Officer to provide support to the Associate Director of Applicant Services. This position has primary responsibility for the coordination of the processing, review, and notification of undergraduate applications for admission and scholarships at Rutgers Biological and Health Sciences programs administered through the New Brunswick Undergraduate Admissions office and maintained on the NJAS admissions system. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Coordinates and oversees the team-based review, evaluation, notification, and processing of undergraduate admission applications.
Assists with scholarship decisions in a document-imaging environment and reviews, evaluates, and renders decisions for applicants (first-year and transfer applications).
Serves as the admissions' liaison for specific divisions of Rutgers in consultation with each school dean, meets with admissions' committees; discusses academic credentials, admissions parameters, and adherence to the University Senate Policy on Undergraduate Admissions.
Develops and implements new procedures and resolves issues pertaining to admission and new undergraduate admission requirements.
Interprets a comprehensive manual of policies and procedures for the review of first-year and transfer applications to undergraduate schools and colleges.
Advises applicants and their families, clarifies decisions, and provides guidance regarding educational alternatives.
Updates and prepares training manuals and trains new staff and seasonal employees in the procedures and policies for the review, notification, and processing of applications and scholarships.
Communicates with and provides information concerning the status of admissions applications to university personnel representing state and federal government relations, deans, academic, and administrative units as needed.
Participates in special projects and in recruitment activities at all stages of the application-to-enrollment cycle as needed.
Makes presentations at recruitment events both on-and off-campus and visits high schools, community colleges, and other facilities for the purpose of recruiting students to the undergraduate schools.
Develops proposals, implements programs, or performs a variety of special functions independently or as a project manager as delegated by the director of applicant services
Home Location Campus: Busch (RU-New Brunswick)
A master's degree in higher education administration, a professional discipline, or other relevant field is preferred.
Professional experience in a large, multi-campus educational institution is preferred as well as knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations preferred.
Knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding higher education preferred. .
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have excellent communication skills including, writing and presentation/public speaking.
Strong interpersonal skills are required including the ability to be collaborative, persuasive, and diplomatic.
Requires organization, analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills; as well as the ability to understand, interpret, and implement state, federal, university, and professional association regulations, rules, and criteria.
Computer literacy to include Microsoft Excel, Word, Windows, Access, and other relational databases required.
Must be committed to customer service and have the ability to work independently, as a project manager, and as part of a team.
Must have a valid U.S. automobile driver's license and vehicle.
Ability to be highly self-motivated, imaginative, flexible, and open to organizational change required.
